the Abramovitch influence

This might be a strange question but do any of you regular St Barths visitors see a change to the island since Abramovitch got a place on the island????

Not really. Yes, there are more russian tourists in Saint Barth now than 15 years ago, but this trend predates Abramovitch. The primary reason is that Russians have more money now than they did 15 years ago.

My rough guess on tourists is:

50% US and Canadian

10% french

10% brit

10% italian

10% russian

10% south american

It varies also by time of the year. More US, Canadians and south americans in winter, more europeans in summer.

Also, you may not know that Rudolf Nureyev built a house in Saint Barth in the 60's. Mikhail Barishnikov was a regular at Castelets in the 70"s and 80"s. Yes, they were expats/refugees. But nevertheless this reflects a long Russian tradition in Saint Barth. (And Nureyev's house does look like a Dasha in the russian country).

Not really, Abramovitch didn't build the property, and the previous owner was probably in the same ball park wealth wise.

Oh! Abramovitch did pay to have Astroturf put down at the football stadium, so a positive impact there.

NY Eve has got heavy with tacky Euro trash Russians (fat old men and super model rude women). Would they have come without Abramovitch-who knows, but it didn't help
