Since the forums are so helpful to us in planning our trip, I always like to post our own comments about the places we dined at during our stay.
My wife and I live in Minnesota and just returned from our first week’s stay in Montserrat.
The following are our comments about the places we dined and are listed in alphabetic order.
Very good food and good value – our second favorite place on the island. Owner was very nice. We both had a red snapper filet (huge!) in a creole sauce and a to die for pumpkin soup! 2 entrees with salad/rice/veggies, 2 soup, 4 Carib - $72US. A bit pricier than we expected, but very good. Large lunch menu.
Great, lunch dining – sit down (about 4 tables) or carry out. Great Roti ($12EC). Curry mutton also okay Top of a hill – nice view.
The Royal Palm Club
Great décor and service. Romantic setting. Entrees (BBQ ribs, chix pot pie, fish & chips) were very good, but too expensive ($72EC-$79EC). Pizza for $55EC. One red and one white wine. Great host, but disappointed in menu selection.
Based on other comments – very disappointing. No local fish except lobster. Stir fry was good, but food just overall okay – NOT anything special. $112EC for 2 entrees and 2 Carib.
Our favorite on the island - as good as promised. A fantastic meal in a beautiful and romantic setting. Definitely worth the higher prices. Good service, excellent food, but small wine selection – but large for Montserrat! (about 6 reds and assorted whites).
Beef tenderloin was very tender and the sauce was very tasty. The duck breast was a large portion and also had a nice sauce. Butterfly shrimp were good (but not so exciting as other comments indicated). The goat cheese soufflé melted in your mouth (unique and excellent). Chocolate sludge was good. 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, 1 coffee, bottle of wine was $454EC (wine was $150EC of that amount).
They have a lighted sign at night on the road indicating where to make your last turn.
