Nice beach reachable from cruise ship?

Cruising in a week and Martinique will be a port of call on this trip. Many cruises under our belt but never been to this particular island before. We prefer to do our own excursions rather than the ship's and just looking for a nice beach to enjoy for the day.

We are mid-50's, DH doesn't drink at all and I am a lightweight so we don't need a bar nor are we looking for a lively scene with lots of vendors and banana boats, etc.

I realize we should be prepared with euros and that there may be a bit of a language barrier. But wonder if we could get a taxi to and then back from a nice beach reasonably close to the port-- or even better if there were one within walking distance.

thanks for any information.

There is a beach in Fort de France that the locals use for swimming lessons etc. it is located by the Fort on the west side, the opposite side from where the cruise ships and ferries dock. It is about a 10 minute walk to the beach; head towards the downtown and if you reach the wooden boardwalk where the dinghies tie up, turn around and look behind you.

We cruised in to Martinique and walked the short distance to the ferry to Pointe de Bout. It was a cattle call to get on the ferry but we were luckily standing at the right spot to easily get on the boat. Once we got to the island we walked to the beach (hotel beach to the left and public beach to the right). Water of course was beautiful and we found a shady spot to spread our towels. Every one was nice and mostly spoke French. We decided to leave a little early to make sure we got back on time. When we got to the ferry dock there was a long line and the locals (workers) thought they should be able to go to the front of the line to get on the boat. One man said he had missed two ferries because of people cutting in line and filling the ferry before he could get on board. We were behind him and we missed the first ferry (during our wait) that came (and so did he for the third time) because of cutting. Before that 3rd ferry (for him) left he had been yelling at people that were cutting and telling them to go the rear of the line. He physically got in the way of one woman and prevented her from boarding. Another woman barged ahead and another man actually grabbed her and prevented her from cutting. As we got near the gang plank for our 2nd ferry locals were jumping a low restraining fence to cut in line and there was a lot of yelling and pushing. Needless to say it got very ugly. I usually don't care about such but I started to get mad thinking we were going to miss our departure. The ferry's crew could have controlled the cutting but they probably were friends with the cutters.

Hello,

Could you please let me know if dollars are excepted to purchase a ferry ticket? Or do they only except Euros?

Thanks

Out of curiosity, do you (or anyone here) know why the locals are rude?? We'll be stopping in November and that's not the first time I've heard they are rude

Typically North American tourists are rude with their expectations that what applies in New York or wherever applies to another country.

You've already gone, but someone else can benefit, there's a bit of a walk to follow to beaches. There's city streets and some shops also. It's a little confusing but not impossible.
