Talk to your kids and see if they are OK with the idea of only being at the beach and a few other spots for your entire vacations... because if they dont like the idea... well maybe you should also stay on the main island. Since in Vieques, you are pretty isolated and dont get to see what Puerto Rico is all about (you miss the sites and the people). You should consider staying 2 or 3 nights in Vieques and the rest on the main island or vise versa. Either way its a great vacation.

You see, if your not on the mainisland these are some of the things you probably wont be able to do... :

1. Go to El Yunque

2. Go to Old San Juan

3. Go to the Luquillo Beach

4. Go to los Kioskos in Luquillo

5. See the mountains

6. Go to Ponce and see the castle, boardwalk, fire stations, indian park, or the coffee plantantion...

7. Go to the caves

8. Go to the observatory

9. And many many more things that make up Puerto Rico

If you stay in Vieques, the wyndham is very good and you will all enjoy it.

But honestly, its your choice and Pueto Rico offers any type of vacation, either a laid back relaxed beach vacation or see the sites on the road vacation... or a cultural/historic learning vacation.

PS If your here for this time, you can try "la noche de san juan" its a local tradition where the san juan beaches and many others party up at night and at the stroke of midnight you go into the ocean backwards a couple of time... this tradition is to bring you good luck all year...
