I've never been to the Carribean and someone recommended Vieques as a nice laid back, non- commercial type of place. I'm planning a vacation the 2nd week of January.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to go or not. All I want is a place to relax, sit on the beach, have a drink and read a book. I'm a little nervous about the mentions of needing a car and all the ins and outs of getting around (not to mention some ominous posts about jellyfish, thieves and "getting eaten alive" by bugs). I'm a seasoned European traveller from New York - so the threat of theft doesn't phase me - but the whole car rental-driving issue seems like it could be a hassle (I usually never drive if I can help it!).
I know going to some big inclusive resort in, say, Cancun, would probably be simple to book - but - as an New York City workaholic - I just want CALM and beautiful and as stress free as possible. I don't want cruisy bar scenes or casinos or dancing or college kid insanity. Is Vieques right for me? How easy is it to find a place and book travel?
