So does this mean we won't have access to these beaches? That could be a problem, since visiting different beaches is the main reason we go to Vieques. I didn't mind the bumps and holes very much. I felt like it helped keep some of the beaches quiet and private, since some of them were more difficult to get to.

I have the same worry. Unfounded?

Will we be able to take alternate routes, or simply wait in "construction traffic"-as we are accustomed to here in the Seattle area_??? Or will these roads be actually closed for access to the beaches?

Any knowledge is appreciated...

Thank you

It looks like there will be some days when access to some of the beaches will not available. It's not clear to me yet when that will be. If I hear of road closings I will post it here ASAP.

I would not worry too much unless you plan to launch a boat near Blue Beach ( not usually a problem) the other affected areas like Playa Grande have an alternate route anyway and they did not say that would be closed anyway. You get to reward yourself with a gold star if you manage too find it anyway

I noticed a new road being built about mid-Blue Beach heading due North. Anyone have any info on where this road goes?

I agree with Lzylitnin - this may change the nature of the beaches altogether. More people will be more willing to go to them if the roads are better. I never minded the bumps. This development will just bring more tourists to these beaches spoiling the privacy and calm! I am disappointed by this news. But I suppose this is just how things work. I believe we are about to experience the beginning of the gentrification of Vieques. Makes me sad.

I would not worry too much about the new road to the beaches, it is unlikely to be a superhighway. And, unless it is paved it will have pot holes in no time.
