if your husband is free to travel within the united states then you should be fine to travel to puerto rico because, if you are traveling from the USA you do not go thru customs...it just like traveling to let's say Hawaii . so i do not think you should have any problems as long as you have a proper id (valid drivers licence or state issued id or whatever is documents he normally needs to travel within the states) if you are still unsure check with someone at your local airport . happy and safe travels !

good luck,

The U.S. State Department and the Department Homeland Security recently announced the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which will require all U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, to carry a passport or other accepted secure documents to enter or re-enter the U.S. from vacations or business travel anywhere in the Caribbean, including Bonaire. This requirement will go into effect on December 31, 2006 and is applicable to all air and sea travel.

I can't believe we have to say this one more time but here we go again....that new law doesn't affect PR, PR is USA you are not re-entering anything when you go to/from PR to/from any other state or territory. NA is a foreign country, then you need a passport.

Check with US Dept. of State. Sometimes the Green Card issue can be tricky. Better to be safe than sorry.

I flew into San Juan last night. All you need is a driver's license or any other form of ID you would use travelling from one US state to another.PR is a US territory(although some may have issues with the wording for political reasons).Puerto Ricans are US citizens,so even though the airlines consider PR "international"in most cases, you do not go through Customs and you can travel freely to any US state to and from PR by air.The exception would be if you are taking a cruise or using a PR airport as a connector to a non-US destination. We get Russians from Brighton Beach down here with green cards all the time on vacation, just as an example. They cannot travel outside of the US, so many will vacation here.US federal laws apply in Puerto Rico.

Hi there,

If your husband have the green card updated and can be in any US state..."WELCOME TO PUERTO RICO" PR is a US territory and work like any other states from the US. Just keep the GC with your husband just in case Customs ask you coming back to the states.

You do not need a visa to enter, the same way you can travel to Bahamas from Miami or some areas in the caribbean like Jamaica and some West Indies, ID card is all until end of 2006. After 2006 you need your passport (which is different from a visa)to travel anywhere in the caribbean, including PR, Bahamas,Virgin Islands,Jamaica.

I have to add, for us puerto ricans who love to travel to the Dominican Republic , Saint Marteen and other islands with their PR drivers license or birth certificate will also need a passport by 2007.
