Trip to San Juan Recommendations - 3 nights

I am putting together a last minute trip and looking to fly to San Juan on the last flight out of NY on Chrstmas. Would stay 3 nights and fly home on the December 29th. Looking for hotel recommendations and generally like boutique to B&B type feel rather than big resort. I understand I will only be there for a short time and I really want to relax and not do too much. Ideally spend two of the days at the beaches. If anyone can help explain the beach scene in San Juan or nearby it would be much appreciated. If I were to stay in Old San Juan or Condado I am looking for day trips to local beaches where I could relax on the beach and have some lunch or drinks nearby. I also understand there is much more to see in Puerto Rico than the city but due to the short duration I would like to pick one place.

Hi Sull, It looks like you'd prefer one of the small hotels in the Condado, like the Olive Boutique Hotel . Its close to the beach and there are lots of bars and restaurants in the area. Also the Condado is a central location with easy access to Old San Juan and Isla Verde

We just got back from Condado yesterday and I can say the beach was very rough! It is not a swimming beach at all. Isla Verde looked like a very nice area ... unsure about the beaches there though. Good luck with your trip. I can tell you driving there is very stressful, so if you want a relaxing trip, stay away from driving LOL. GPS didn't work with street names, lanes disappear, etc.

At Wind Chime Inn isn't a B&B, but it's in Condado, a block from the beach and within walking distance of several other hotel properties with restaurants, casinos, beachfronts (w/towel & umbrella svc, etc.), as well as plenty of shops, a Starbucks, etc. They also have a sister property located right on the beach. Neither are very pricey, though I will tell you that At Wind Chime Inn is a no-frills experience. If you're looking to stay in one place, unwinding in Condado is an easy, no-hassle way of getting sun, sand, good food and drink. You can easily walk the whole area, so a car isn't even needed (though I would recommend renting one at least for a day to see El Yunque or just explore the island).

How long/easy is it to travel from San Juan to Fajardo/El Yunque? Im not sure if I want to move around that much but the boat trip looks like a fun day.

Im usually notorious for jamming too much into a short period of time, so this vacation will be less about logisitcs and more about maxing relaxing.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Much appreciated and cant wait.

Welp, its about 45 minutes to one hour since this is your first time. It's fairly easy assuming you posses a good ability to follow maps directions. The boat trip is very relaxing and fun.

Another plus in your trip it is Christmas. Many activities during that time and you will see how different is Christmas in the island compared to the US, but some similarities thought such as lighting trees and so. Will see if SMS, Flowerfarm and maybe me can put a schedule like we did last year. I agree that may be a one day rentel be kool to see more, but since you prefer relaxation time, SJ may be fine.
