Cruise/hotel package or not?

We are going on our first cruise (Princess line) and will fly in the day before. SHould we utilize the offer of the cruise/hotel package at $169.00 per person(Sheraton OSJ) or find our own hotel? What is the cost of a taxi to OSJ area from the airport? Then we would have to take a taxi (merely to lug the luggage) to the ship.. what would that cost be? I am thinking the transfers to the airport from the ship when we come back is part of our cruise price??

Thanks for any info... Any good hotels, clean and in a good location? How is the Sheraton? I would love to stay at the convento, but it is also very expensive for the day (unless transportation is included)

as far as l know none of the hotels in PUERTO RICO offer any free transportation to and from airports. i do not know anything aboutSHERATON OSJ but ,there is a lovely little hotel in CONDADO(which is cenrally to located OLD SAN JUAN and ISLA VERDE) called THE CORAL PRINCESS INN. they have a small pool, thier rate includes continental breakfast, and they are very close to the beach. many rest's and cafe's are within walking distance. ISLA VERDE is a15 min taxi ride about $20.00 i think. this place is a gem and quite a bargin !

Taxi fare, airport to OSJ is around $19 - rate is fixed. Some ship piers are within a short walking distance from the Sheraton. I have cruised out of PR twice. Both times I found I saved money when I booked the hotel on my own prior to a cruise. $340 for a one night stay at the Sheraton seems a little high even with transfers included. Have you called the hotel directly to get a price for a one night stay?. .

Thank you for replying to my question. I called the hotel and they said it was (at this time) $365 PLUS tax & tariff...I think that is really high, but then I know it is supply and demand. I really would like to stay by OSJ just because we could walk around without getting a taxi, bus, etc. We get in at 4 and leave on the ship the next day at 11pm...

Also, when we get back, how long does it take to disembark? We have a flight at 1:50 will that be okay?

Thanks again for any tips.... Any tips for where you sailed and what to do at the different ports?

About disermakation, they ask the passenger who has an early flight to catch upon arrival, and then proceed to let them go 1st. Usually this is done the 1st day, they gave you a color code ticket for your lauggage and will call you by that color.

We have done this many times so here is my suggestion. Rather then spend $300+ for the Sheraton OSJ we stay at El Canario by the Sea for $119. It's right next to the Marriott. You literally fall out the door to a BEAUTIFUL beach, which Marriott uses the same beach as well. El Canario is a B&B you can look it up on the web (www.canariohotels.com) It's clean, very, very small rooms and it's old,but for the small amount of time you are there it's not a problem. It just depends on how fancy of a hotel you want. We love the beach and want to spend as much time on it as we can when in Puerto Rico before our cruise. In fact, we are leaving this Friday for San Juan and will be staying there too. I think it's perfect for what we want. It's about $12 from the El Canario to the ship (10 minutes) It's within walking distance to shops, restaurants, hotels, casinos. You can go over to the Marriott have a drink in the lounge, dance, salsa all night long, play in the casino then walk across the street and fall into bed. Wake up next morning to a nice continental breakfast on a nice open patio area. You can leave your luggage in the small lobby with everyone's else and spend a few more hours on the beach before boarding the ship. Since this is your first cruise you will be very excited to board the ship and may not want to wander or hang out at the beach. There will be long lines to board at the terminal, but is very organized and orderly. I don't take transfer from the ship cause then you have to board this huge bus with 60+ people, it's just such a hassle. It's cheap enough to hop in a cab to and from. We have done numerous cruise so we are quite good at this now! Have a wonderful time, we on RCCL 10 day Southern Carribbean.....can't wait. Great little inexpensive is Wakiki Native Cuisine & Seafood also walking distance. We sit out on the patio and just want listen to the sounds of the wonderful ocean. Enjoy!

If you really wanted to stay in Old San Juan consider Hotel Milano. It is a small boutique type hotel and nice for 1 night. No frills here, but it is walking distance to everything in Old San Juan. Go to www.hotelmilanopr.com

Good luck !!!
