Beaches

Hi...I've been to San Juan before and I loved walking the beach in Isla Verde. We will be staying at the Hilton and I know they only have a small beach. Is there any beach that I can walk on that is within walking distance of the Hilton? Do I have to take a cab to get to Ocean Park or Condado from there? Is Ocean Park a seperate beach or is it part of Condado? Where is there public access to either of those? Thanks for any input. k

You have El Escambron which is about an eight of a mile away from the Caribe Hilton. This beach was the first beach on an American continent to obtain Blue Ribbon status. Please read the exerpt I have attached below regarding this designation:

SAN JUAN (AP) - El Escambron public beach in San Juan on Wednesday was named the first public beach on an America continent to obtain the "Blue Ribbon" distinction as evidence of the high water quality, security, education and environmental management. Samuel Gonzalez, executive director of the Puerto Rico National Parks Co., said the important prize also was awarded to 2,000 beaches in 24 countries in Europe and South Africa.

Ocean Park is part of the Condado area. To get to de beach, take any lateral street that gets you to the water! Beaches in PR are public.

You can take a bus from the Hilton (you may have to walk a little to get to a stop) to Ocean Park. I'll look into the route that covers all of Ashford Ave. /McLeary St.

Sure no problem. Your just on the other side of the Condado Lagoon. You can see the Condado Plaza hotel from the Hilton. Just walk across the bridge. We do it all the time. The Condado Plaza has a Casino and Restraunts. That is Ashford Ave the Main Condado strip. I think once you get past the Ramada, you get to the beginning of the Condado Beach area. With all the shops, it is a nice walk. You can always grab a cab back to the Hilton. Have fun...

If it's low tide you can even stroll on the beach all the way from Condado to Ocean Park. If not, there is a small spot near the Ambassador Hotel that will either require you to climb up a small path to the street and then right back down. Just beyond that is a small spot which requires a bit of wading. Nonetheless the entire treck can be made barefoot if you so desire. It's one of my favorite strolls in the area.
