We were there last March and walked 7 Mile beach every day. We just took a cab into town and got dropped off at the Cambino then walked the beach back to the hotel. You have to leave the beach at the Boardwalk and then it was a 10 min walk along the road back to the hotel.

Of the places you mention: Ivan's is at Catch A Falling Star resort which is located a bit over 3 miles south of downtown in the cliff area of Negril and about 8 miles from the RIU, The Office of Nature is on Bloody just a few hundred yards north of the RIU, and LTU is near the Negril Lighthouse about 3.5 miles south of downtown in the cliff area of Negril and about 8.5 miles from the RIU.

While in Negril you should also visit Rick's Cafe. It is very close to LTU but on the water side of the road. Rick's is a tourist trap but go for the sunset once (and only once) to say that you have done it.

Walking the beach is great fun. You do have to constantly say 'no thanks' to the hustlers plying their wares, but that's generally not too much of a hassle. There is no free shuttle that I'm aware of. A taxi on the road should cost $3-5US to anywhere on Long Bay beach. Kuyaba is a very nice place to see/stop on the beach. Very good food and good scenery for photos. Personally, I'd skip Margaritaville since there are so many other more authentic places. Hit the M'ville at the airport on your way home instead IMO.

As said above, Ivan's, LTU, Rick's, Catcha, etc... aren't on the beach. They're another few mile taxi ride up to the cliffs. A taxi there from the Riu should be $10 per couple. Taxis based right at the hotel may charge more... the ones zipping by on the road are often cheaper.
