Sunset Beach Resort and Spa

Hi, we're going for a 3 night weekend Valentines weekend to Sunset Beach, first time to Jamaica, anyone been lately? any opinions and info would be helpful. Such as, 1. how is the beach, we just returned from Punta cana and loved the beach, how does it compare? 2. It says casino, slot machines, did anyone see the new casino? 3. do men have to wear long pants in any of the restaurants? 4. how is the food? do they have room service? Thanks

Marie,

I was just there in October so here goes....

1. The beach is nice but not really big. There are plenty of chairs so you don't have to get up at dawn to reserve one. I've never been to Punta Cana so I can't give you a decent comparison

2. The casino is more of a game room. There are slot machines and that is about it I think. I live near Atlantic City so a room with slots is not a casino to me but I guess to others it is.

3. Men do not have to wear long pants to the buffet or the restaurants.

4. The food was good (from what I remember). ;o) There is a snack bar near the water park where you can get your fill of french fries, burgers, ice cream, pizza, etc. The buffet was also nice especially at breakfast. We never ate there at lunch because we hit the snack bar. Dinner was good- make sure to make your restaurant reservations as soon as you check in. Also, they do not have room service.

If you have any other questions let me know...

Hi Julie! There were several weddings while we were there- at least one a day. We stayed in the Inn part of the hotel which over looked the gardens and the gazebo where the weddings are held. It is absolutely beautiful!!! The view of the ocean is incredible and the plant-life is amazing. I can send you pictures of the area if you like.... it was raining when I took them though but you will get the general idea. Also, there was a wedding there the first night we were there and it was raining so they moved it to the porch. They had a beautiful arch decorated with flowers (I also have pictures of that too). I'm not sure what your dress looks like but let me offer a bit of advice. We watched one wedding where the bride wore high heels and had some trouble walking across the grass to the gazebo... I suggest flats or sandles- it's much easier. After the weddings they set up tables in the lobby area for a nice dinner. All and all it is a great place to be married for the scenery alone- breathtaking!!! I did not take any trips because we were on a short vacation (5 days) but we met people there who did. Our friends took the trip to Dunnes River Falls and booze cruise after, they said it was fun. Let me know if you have any other questions.... congrats on getting married!!

Hi there we have stayed at Sunset Beach and also at Sunscape Punta Cana Grande. Loved them both but if I had to return to one it would be Sunset Beach. Dont know where you stayed in Punta Cana but at the Sunscape the beach was beautiful and large. Sunset Beach was a lot smaller but still (in my opinion) beautiful and there is definitely something about the resort that makes you want to go back for more.

We will be in MB for one day off a cruise ship Dec. 7. i heard the admission price to SB was about 40-45 dollars, twice what it used to be. For those that have been there is it worth spending the day there, drinks and food included? Or should we spend the day elsewhere? It is our first visit to Jamaica.

alligator0112, since you just returned from SSB, I have a question for you. We've been there twice during few last years and stayed in the towers, which liked a lot. All shows/entertainment at night time was taken place under the sky right near the grill with snacks and bar next to eat. Is it still the case? I read that some ppl complain it was too noisy in the towers, because of nightly shows.

I'm sorry I can't totally answer your question live2go4vacation because I didn't stay in the towers. I stayed in the "Inn" part which I guess is new. The shows did take place in the same area expect the first night we were there.... it rained that night so the show was in the lounge area between the towers. I personally didn't think even that show was loud but that's my opinion. The shows end by 10pm and then everyone just hangs in the lobby or pub (as I'm sure you know). I guess the people that complained were in bed before 10 so it doesn't sound like they were much fun to begin with! ;o) Hope that helps!
