First time to Jamaica-advice please

We are considering a holiday in Jamaica, having previously visited Antigua and Barbados.

Which resort area would suit us best ? My husband is a keen sea swimmer and snorkeller, so preferably with safe sea swimming, no jet skis ? Also he likes to run so is there anywhere with a boardwalk or similar for running/walking ?

We are a couple in our early sixties so not looking for a party/nightlife scene.

Any advice gratefully received, it is a bit daunting when you start looking at all the hotels, resorts. Montego Bay, Negril etc.

Negril has the best beaches. 7 mile and bloody beaches are real good for walking. Check out Riu Palace Tropical Bay and Couples Swept Away.

"Which resort area would suit us best ?"

See the following

"so preferably with safe sea swimming"

It is safe in all of the major tourist areas on the island,.

"no jet skis ?"

The Government of Jamaica banned the use of all jet skis on the island for some time. There currently only one or two licensed renters of jet skis on the island in the Ocho Rios area. Jet ski usage is not an issue in Jamaica.

"anywhere with a boardwalk"

There are none that I know of in any of the tourist areas of Jamaica. With few exceptions, the normal arrangement is sea, beach, hotel, and then a road. If you are looking for something like the Promenade des Anglais in Nice you will not find it in Jamaica.

"similar for running/walking ?"

Negril has short bike/walking path that runs north from downtown. It is located about 200 to 250 yards inland from the sea and separated from the sea by a row of hotel, bars, shop, and restaurants as well as the main highway around the island. It can be used for running.

What is your budget for a hotel (airfare not included)? Rooms run from about $us50 (about £40) to about $us1500 (about £1250) per night. What price point are you looking for?

Are you looking for a regular hotel or an all inclusive resort?

Are you looking for a resort for adult couples only? or adults (singles or couples) only?, or for anyone (children, adult singles, or adult couples)?
