November Weather at the Sandals LAsource

What is the typical weather in Grenada (athe Sandals which I believe is in St George's) around November? Does it rain alot or more like the other islands where it rains and then clears up. We went to Jamaica in November and it was hot and didn't rain at all. Also how hot is it during the day and how cold does it get at night? Is it breezy?

The average weather is displayed at the right hand side of the forum.

Its late in wet season, so typically it rains all day about once every 10 days or so, and rains for a bit most afternoons. Half cloudy half the time.

However grenada is in the southern caribbean, the air temperatures dont change much, just humidity levels, and its always at least pleasantly warm 24/7/365. Its just sometimes very hot (unlikely then) and sometimes very humid ( quite likely then for part of the time.)

The breeze will be from the east, it always is, and f you want a detailed forecast then, forget anything automated, the caribbean one tv channel aand website will give you a reasonable guide, but the island is a microclimate, whats happening a few miles away in precipitation and sunshine can bear little relation to where you are.

Sorry that average display is part of the grenada page not the forum page.

This is a great weather website - you can see annual averages as well as a 14 day forecast (oh dear, it's raining right now, apparently): www.holiday-weather.com/saint_george_s/

According to the averages on holiday-weather.com/saint_george_s/averages/ you can expect highs of 81°F/27°C and 8 hours of sunshine each day. In November the average sea temperatures are 82°F/28°C.

That website also says: "April is the hottest month in Saint George's with an average temperature of 27°C (81°F) and the coldest is January at 26°C (79°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 10 in March. The best month to swim in the sea is in August when the average sea temperature is 29°C (84°F) ".

Generally, the "dry season" is considered to be December to May, and the "wet season" is considered to be June to November. The "wet season" is also the hurricane season.

Thank you so much. It doesn't seem to vary much. We have gotten lucky in that most trips we have gone on it barely rains. :)

I know what you mean - we've been lucky too and never had any rain to speak of! They say the temperature on Grenada never varies much, but that it's the humidity that changes with the seasons. And, of course, it is noticeably cooler at altitude up in the rainforest and mountains.

We've just come back from Sandals LaSource (back home yesterday, boo hoo!) and we enjoyed 11 days of Weather Perfection. The sun is really intense so make sure you take and use plenty of sun screen.

Wishing you a great time in November :)

Honestly, in the decades ive been visiting, i can guarantee that those weather sites are at best flawed when dealing with Grenada. The problem is

They get their information from a group of sources then average the results. This include the local airport, but that data isnt used in isolation. If it was it would still be wrong for much of the island. E.g. If its rain prediction is more than x% as predicted by the locations they deem relevant which will include several local places (islands) for the day, websites puts up a rainy icon. Unfortunately the local experience will vary widely from this average, the SW penninsula in grenada is shielded from SOME of the convectional rainfall by the mountain, so its a lot drier than inland to the east of the capital. Of course we who have been there also know that a 2 hour rainstorm in the tropics isnt like a 2 hour rainstorm in a temperate climate in feel or effect.

The local conditions are also greatly affected by depressions coming up from south america (venezuela) and the western caribbean, and south mexico. These are short sharp affairs typically, one last winter dumped a foot of rain on st vincent in a day causing deaths, and can miss or hit specific islands, so you need to use real local forcasting. One caribbean tv's website broadcasts video forecasts once or twice a day, they mention grenada and show the moving satellite images which can help you guess if its coming your way. Its not as good as the uk, or america, but its reasonably useful.

One other thing, wet = insects. The mozzies, sandflys and others are a lot more common in wet season. Thats also when one year in a couple, dengue fever will be prevalent in some parts of grenada, actually throughout the caribbean, but only some places. Thats when you learn to watch out for aedes egyptii mosquitos. Ever seen a zebra striped mosquito, thats it. Look here health.qld.gov.au/dengue/info/mosquito.asp

Would you be able to answer some questions. What room did you stay in and was it long pants for most restaurants. Is it really hot at night? How does it compare to other sandals if you have been to others? Are there enough floats?

Hi pghvaca

You've no need to worry, there's plenty of everything including floats, loungers and beach towels.

We stayed in a Pink Gin Beach Beachfront Walkout room at Club level and we were very happy with it. I've described it in quite some detail in my "yes another Sandals topic" thread on the Grenada Forum.

It seemed to us that the only restaurants you really needed long pants for were Butch's, the French and the Italian restaurants. We saw plenty of men dining with dress shorts at Spices and Neptune's.

Sandals have promoting this one as their flagship and we'd have to agree with that. It really is fantastic in every possible term: best food, tremendous service, etc, etc. We've now stayed at 4 different Sandals (8 visits in total) and Sandals on Grenada is much, much better than the others we've visited, in our opinion.

It does remain hot at night, but perfect for dining outdoors. In your room you will have a ceiling fan and A/C so you will be able to get your perfect temperature. We just used the ceiling fan at night (to keep the mosquitoes away) and we found that to be just right for us.

@ bobgb, thanks for pointing out the differences between the forecasting sites and actuality - you are right, of course. Even in our short stay we could see that the forecasts were not strictly accurate, indeed prior to our holiday the forecast changed every day! We never actually turned the TV on (a very nice big HD flatscreen, btw) so didn't see their forecast. The web forecast for our stay showed 3 days of rain, but apart from a 5 minute sprinkle we didn't have any the whole time :)
