That is a completely personal decision, based on information you would discuss with your healthcare provider.

For us, however, we were told it was not a necessity - our doctor is quite well-travelled and said that unless we planned on visiting a river area in Haitian jungle, he did not see the need. This is only one professional opinion of course. He still left it up to us to decide, based on the information he had to provide. We opted not to - an entirely personal decision.

We keep well protected (we hope) with a repellant containing a high level of Deet (Deep Woods OFF), bring mosquito coils for sitting outside in the evening, use unscented hairspray and lotions, do not wear any perfume/colognes and have steered clear of the Skin-So-Soft from Avon, as we found it attracted the mosquitos even up here when camping.

There is always the chance of mosquitos, especially very early morning and in the evening. We opt to just be as well-protected as possible - again, a personal choice as we feel, based on our own reading and research, the chance of malaria is small.

Good luck and enjoy your trip :D

that is up to you....ask your doctor.....many North American's do not take it, many that reside in DR do not take it,, those across the pond do take it due to insurance purposes.... speak with your doctor... ask about the benefits and the "SIDE EFFECTS".....

Chances of getting it in PC is close to the chance that you have a winning lottery ticket in your pocket

Thank you for your responses. In this case, we will be staying at an all inclusive resort (for the first time) and not hiking or camping.

No you don't need to. The risk is very very low. Bring bug spray with Deet.

Brits do need to for insurance purposes...
