Bringing alcohol into Canada...

So when travelling outside of Canada, I usually buy my alcohol at the airport after I've checked in so then I know I can keep it in my carryon. But I've read that the duty free alcohol at PUJ is more expensive so it's better to buy it before I get to the airport. My question is, do the same liquid rules apply?? Meaning, will I have to put my alcohol in my checked baggage?

Yes you will have to pack your alcohol in your checked bags leaving PUJ. All the same rules apply.

I bought some bottles at the market and I put them in a big Ziploc baggies and wrapped the bottles really well with the clothes in my suitcase.

We too brought Ziploc bags and some bubble wrap for just such a purpose - wrapped well like this, tucked securely away wrapped in clothes, and no problems.

We noticed the rum we liked for example, was about 4-6 dollars more at duty free than at our resort.

Not only is the liquor expensive at PUJ, but its mostly international brands. If you are looking for good Dominican rum I suggest stopping at a store before leaving...much cheaper as well

The rum that we paid $13.50 for Barcelo Gran Anjeo at the Cussie and it was $32 at the airport!!!!!

Also, because they dont sell 40oz'ers you are usuallly ok bringing back 2 x 700ml bottles each.
