illness in Punta Cana

Just to try to put peoples minds at ease. I have done a lot of research on all the rumoured illnesses including going to my GP and intestinal specialist (i have a pre existing illness) There is nothing to worry about. You can get ill from any resort, any country if you are not carefull. I have read reviews on places in mexico and cuba where people are getting ill. Plus we are eating and drinking a lot more than normal(?) which is sure to upset your tummy. I think it is rude for others to put people down (as I have read in some of the forums) for being concerned.

I strongly beleive that everything has been blown out of proportion but if it makes people feel better book an appointment with your doctor to get a proffesional opinion, this may ease your mind and make the trip more enjoyable. If you worry too much it will taint your trip.

Best of health and travel to all.

just returned from PC and there are people sick there like at home. i think a lot has to do with so many different people staying in the same rooms, using the same serving utensils at the buffets, some times blankets and bedspreads are not washed after people leave. it is just a harder situation to get rid of the germs. also a bigger deal to get sick away form home and after paying money to have a nice vacation.

we stayed at Riu Bambu from 1/22-1/29. it would be hard to put a percentage on how many people were sick would say 3/4 of the groups we talked to had someone sick, but then we really didn't talk to the Europeans and they were the largest majority. there were a lot of people on the plane coming home that had been sick at other resorts also.

I'm heading to the Bambu in 2 weeks. What was your overall rating of the place? This is my first time to the DR.

the Bmabu was better than the 4 apple we stayed at previously in PC. i thought the resort was very nice and really have no complaints. the food is not 6 star but very good. liked the walkway on the beach between all the riu's..a nice touch. didn't like that there were no bars or restrooms close to the beach. the only public restrooms were in the lobby and were the snack buffet was at lunch. we did talk to Wellington and he said there were plans being approve to have another bar and restrooms put in closer to the beach. did you email to request a room. some of the rooms are a quarter mile walk to the beach. let me know if you need to know building numbers. we paid $2218 for 2 including insurance and taxes...well worth the price.
