Passports

We are travelling to the Dominican Republic from the US in May and are trying to decide whether we will need passports. Has anyone travelling without a passport had any problems?

thanks

1. Re: Passports

We went to the DR last year and one of the couples with us did not have passports and they did not have any problems. Just make sure that your birth cert. has the raised seal on it. Also if any women that you go with are married make sure that they bring their marriage cert. with them. Have a great trip!!!

Read/Heard it depends on when go? Any feedback/ideas? We are also contemplating whether or not to do the passport thing for our trip in May as well.

Also saw on the State Dept's website that it is now "highly recommended"?!

Thanks.

fot once and for all--passports are mandatory as of jan. 1, 2007. and in the usa for domestic travel--jan.1 2008. YOU DO NOT--i repeat---DO NOT need passporst to go to the DOM. REB. at this time. of course they are recommended so you spend the money. We just got back from Secrets last monday and we had NO PROBLEMS what so ever---with birth cert. and photo ID. The airline you BROUGHT your ticket from could have told you this. anyone who said they had a problem either DIDNOT have a birth cert. with a raised seal or with a water mark---you CAN NOT have a photo copy---but thats only common sense. but if you must get your passport now. At least one branch of the post office in your town has passport hours and they also take your photos there. go online tho US post office to find the one in your area. I believe the cost is $92 for a first time. and $60 for a renewal.

Thanks BlkSpy

Although the tone of that previous post was completely uncalled for, your info is appreciated and more than clear! :)
