Best All Inclusive (Adults Only)

We're looking at trying the DR for our anniversary as are original plans for the RIU Palace in Aruba have changed due to robberies from in room safes(our TA led a group of 27 to Aruba and they had at least 2 safes broken into stealing money & jewelry). We've been told to look elsewhere and Excellence Punta Cana & Iberostar Grand were specifically mention as being "nicer" resorts than the RIU in Aruba. Looking for sun, 80+ degrees temps, good food( the food at the RIU was VERY good.) nice pool/beach area, and good service(not an hour wait for dinner) Our TA compares these resorts to Sandals properties, but less expensive(we've stayed at several Sandals in Jamaica). Looking at late April/ early May. Any others with thoughts on these or other AI's in the DR? Hoping to stay under $4000 for the package(air+hotel+transfers) for 7 days. Thanks for the help !!

Surprised about the thefts, Aruba has VERY little crime on the island, except for u know who, we stayed at the HI back in 2004 with my then minor kids, bf and mom and Loved it! Food was awesome and beaches, ahhh :)

Anyway, is my 1st time to PC in 10 days at the iberostar bavaro and we're very excited!

You shud get LOTS of good feedback here, as this is a very active and helpful forum that really seems to just LOVE Punta Cana :)

Both recommendations you got from your TA are very nice, but also have a very different feel.

IBG is a modern hotel with lots of marble and concrete, not really lush and mature vegetation on a calm water beach, but very busy beach. 4 stories big block hotel.

Excellence as a more "Caribbean" feel with lush and mature vegetation and trees, on a rough water beach, but very private and remote beach. 3 stories small blocks (12 rooms per block).

We prefer the Excellence feel, but many prefer Iberostar Grand Bavaro also.

It all depends what you are looking for.

Most of the "adult only" resorts in Punta Cana are actually smaller sections of hotels within a larger family friendly resort complex, so do your research and choose carefully!

We've stayed at the Iberostar Grand and loved it - we know many people who've gone to the Excellence and loved it also - it is a further ride from the airport though and have heard on here that the ocean there is more rough for swimming. Do agree with Joce (post #4) that the IBG was very modern - marble, fancy architecture etc - a bit too glitz for our taste as we prefer a more tropical vibe. We've been to the Ambar a couple of times and loved it also.

I am on the Iberostar side as having stayed at the Grand last year and just returned from a stay at Iberostar Bavaro.

The Grand is very nice with modern feel and great service BUT quiet depending on demographics at that time. But the luxury of staying at the Grand is you can use all 4 properties which are side by each. Walk nextdoor to the Bavaro for a cocktail at beach bar or to lobby bar in the evening for a MUCH more party atmosphere. Saw many from the Grand at our resort having a good time...
