Depends what you like - are you a pool person or a beach person? Do you like somewhere with nightlife or do you prefer something quiet?

Something huge or something smaller and more intimate (smaller will likely have fewer restaurants etc.).

If you give some idea of what kind of place you are looking for it's a lot easier to help you!

I have nothing but good to say about Bahia Principe. Absolutely loved it. I can't believe I have to wait a year before I can get more time off so that I can go there again!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help folks. We are a couple in our early 50's and enjoy the beach. Not into nightlife alot, some small entertainment would be enjoyable. Perfer a small place to a larger one. The most important thing is a nice beach and a clean and friendly hotel, perfer one without a lot of little kids. I would appreciate all the wisdom you can share.

Just to add to my earlier post, I'd love to hear from people who have just returned from Punta Cana, where they stayed, and most important of all DID THEY GET THE GI BUG?

traveled to Secrets Excellance in October- had such a great time we are going back next week for a long weekend.

Positives - Adults only! Like anywhere in all inclusives the food may not be to everyones desire, however there was more than I could ever consider and plenty of it. We were pleased with most everything we tried- never disappointed. Many restraunts and choices compared to other resorts.

It is also the most relaxing place where you can stay active all day with the activities but not feel pressured. Lots of games where the final prize- is the "baby maker" - DR Rum along with a variety of beads, shirts and mugs. The shows sometimes corny were the funniest things I had ever seen. The professional acts-- well your in the DR- dont expect Vegas.

Negatives- we were last there following the hurricane, and the elevators were never functional in our building. Somehow it never mattered. I do understand it is not unusual from the postings. The casino is smallish, however they do give you starter chips and from many that ventured there that we met did fairly well.

Neutral - many have complained about the language-- bottom line this is a country where Spanish is the native language. I do speak some Spanigh- although not fluent and found all to be pleasant and assistive. Hec... they even have Spanish lessons most every morning. Time to bone up!

Beaches- well I grew up in Florida, and we died for such a surf living in South Florida. The waters were on the shallow side, so if you got doused by a wave, it wasn't Daytona where you thought you would drown. Great physical activity- we were exhausted after playing in the waters. just time for a coco-loco and short siesta on the beach. Don't go there looking for a pretty snorkeling trip and lots of tropical adventure-- you're going to the wrong place. Many say to the right down the beach was better for that.

We are type "A" and my first impression when I landed was what am I going to do here for the next week? WOW... I cant wait till next week. great place to energize your batteries.

Thank you both MiamiOnTheWay and Tatmandu on your helpful reports on the Secrets and Bahai Principe. A couple of questions (we are going mid Feb for 7 days) are many people getting sick with the stomach illness, and do you have to rush out early to claim your shade, are the beaches very crowded, is there a certain area at the resorts that is best to have a room with regards to closeness to beach and view? Thanks again for your suggestions.

rida101 We went to the LTI last year in Punta Cana. It was great, however I personally would be sceptical about going anywhere in the DR at this time. Too much sickness and cover up. We were in POP in Dec. and all 4 of us were very sick. Not fun at all. Think about Mexico or Cuba

We just returned from Secrets last week. This was our first trip to DR and in our opinion we could not have picked a better resort especially if you are looking for one without kids. We typically travel to the AIs in Jamaica but found DR to be just as nice for less money the only draw back for us was that we like the c/o beaches of Jamaica.

We were there for 5 night got to know a lot of people and did not encounter a single person who was sick. Also spent a couple of hours at the airport with a couple thousand other folks and did not notice any sickness seemed like a happy crowd to me...

Rida , We have gone to the Caribe Club Princess for the past 2 years and we loved it . There are a couple of large pools so if you want quiet you can to the one where they don't have all the entertainment. The beach was very beautiful and well kept.

There are only a little more then 300 rooms so the resort is not crowded. I never had a problem finding food and there was 24 service for drinks and food unlike many of the other resorts including the Bahia I am going to try next week . The only thing I would reccomend is that you request a room on a second floor as we did find it to be noisy on the first floor last year. Good Luck !!!!!!!!
