what does it take to cancel a flight?

I'm curious to know why people travelling get caught up in hurricanes and tropical storms. If the weather is predicting a hurricane lets say in punta cana next week, do they still continue to fly people out there or do they reschedule. How does it work. If you have insurance are you able to choose not to go and get your money back or is it a chance you take?

It's basically up to the airlines.....IF they feel its too dangerous to fly there, then they will cancel and give you the option of either postponing your trip to a later date, or getting a refund on your trip.

But, if the airline doesn't cancel, your trip insurance doesn't cover you cancelling....

Well, that's here in Canada anyways.

I work at a travel agency. We are finding almost everyone pre-purchases vacation protection insurance. If you had purchased insurance BEFORE a hurricane is predicted (or expected) you'll get your money back.
