1. Re: hurricane season

in the carribean region the official hurricane season is from 1 June to 30 November (see http://hurricanes.noaa.gov/prepare/season.htm). Some sources (i.e. local web pages like http://www.caribbeannews.com/hot/dominical.htm) say that it is from July to September, but this can be considered as an attempt of some travel business people to attract visitors in the low season. Just check the prices at the hotels and you will see that almost every hotel offers special prices in the low seasen (= hurricane season).

Unfortunately this year the risk of being hit by an hurricane is higher due to the unusually high water temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean.

I've been two times in Dominica, both times from mid September to mid October (which is of course within the hurricane season ), and had no problems with hurricanes. The year before last year we had a so called "tropical depression" which brought some heavy rainfall for two days, but nothing more.

There is no 100% guarantee of no hurricanes, as the weather is never guaranteed. If I were you I would take the trip and choose a hotel which is build massive - just to be perpared.
