We arrived in Curacao and were met at the airport by Just Drive Curacao. We rented a RAV with a GPS and the deal went smoothly and the vehicle was great to have on the island. The return was easy, just met us at the drop off lane. I highly recommend this company for a rental car, I can’t imagine not having one. We stayed at the Hilton and I have left a review on the Hotels Section for them. The Hilton executive floor has been renovated and is nice. I would recommend a junior suite; it is a nice big room. We had golf clubs and scuba gear, so it was nice to have the extra space. My boys had a standard room on that floor with an island view, but the view from our ocean view room was truly beautiful. The executive floor lounge is nice to have also because of the continental breakfast and in the evening the relaxed happy hour. Kareen is truly fun!
Honestly, we did not do very much in the 9 days on the island! We ate at some good restaurants and I will leave reviews for those. We had one dinner at the Hilton and one lunch. Walk over to Pirate Bay for lunch or dinner, I thought their food was great and the service was really good also. We had lunch one day at the Marriott and it was good, but the service was no better than the Hilton. The Gouverneur in Willemstad was a great place to have dinner. Make reservations for a table outside and you can watch the bridge open for the boats and ships. Our favorite restaurant was Mangos. We ate there twice. Mangos have a great menu, great food, good prices, and very good service. We also ate at Landhuis Misje-good, Perla del Mar, good food and great atmosphere if you request a seat outside! Pirate Bay-good food and close to Hilton, Iguana Café-good food and fun, The Wine Cellar-ok food, boring and expensive. We shopped at Centrum for beer and snacks that we kept in our room. We had packed a collapsible cooler in case we went to other beaches, which we did not, but we used the cooler and spent most of our beach time on Hilton’s other beach. It is in need of some attention, but it is great because it is away from the crowds and there are lots of shady spots. There is a small pool and clean beach bathrooms. You can watch the divers come in off of the boat dives from Caribbean Sea Sports and you can snorkel the rocks around the beach. Great snorkeling.
Husband and son golfed at both Blue Bay and the Old Quarry. They said the Old Quarry was quite far from the Hilton so only golfed there once. The pictures they took show the course is beautiful. My son said it was very hard for him. My husband and son said Blue Bay is very nice, and the prices were much better and they didn’t feel as rushed. It is very close to the Hilton so that is where they golfed. My sons and I scuba and we did 4 boat dives with the Marriott dive shop. The Mushroom Forest was our favorite dive by far! It seemed convenient to use Caribbean Sea Sports because we could also go shore diving right off their beach and they have a great house reef. We also did a night dive with them. If you don’t have much experience with shore diving, this is a great place to get introduced. We shopped in Punda and Otrobanda, walked over the bridge and had lunch in town. We visited Mikve Israel-Emanuel Synagogue and thought it interesting and worth the admission price. My boys rented a jet ski from the place next to Pirate Bay restaurant and they seemed to have a lot of fun. We hung out on the beach, read, relaxed and just had fun on Curacao. We didn’t do much, but I would do this all over again! At the airport when leaving there is a Britt store that has small boxes of chocolates filled with Curacao! Great take home gifts! Thanks to everyone for their help in planning this trip.
