Where to stay - so confused with so many choices and opinion

Hi Everyone!

So I'm headed to Curacao for the first week of April and have been combing the Trip Advisor boards to try and figure out where we should stay. There's so much great information but there are so many different opinions that I'm getting completely overwhelmed. So, this is a plea for anyone who has a recommendation of where to stay.

What our criteria would be:

1 bedroom with a full kitchen (so excited to get fresh fish from the fishermen)

Decent outdoor space (if in a resort with pool area can work as long as there is some balcony for breakfast, dinner)

Ocean view - ideally with ocean access

A/C at least in the bedrooms

Walking distance to restaurants (we will be renting a car but prefer to walk to dinner/drinks in the evenings), we prefer more Caribbean style beach type feel rather than high-end

Pool available

From what I've been reading I think my best bets for areas are Blue Bay, Piscadera Bay or the Aquarium? I've been getting mixed feelings on Jan Thiel but that is also another consideration.

As a comparison we were in Belize last November and loved San Pedro (were just on the outskirts at Coral Bay Villas which was perfect) and also love Placencia down at the point.

Many thanks!!!

Your questions are the same type of questions we asked when we purchased our place in Curacao. As tripadvisor has a policy about self promotion I am reluctant to offer my advise on the locations you mention - one location over another but we settled on the Piscadera area due to its location and ammenities. If you want more information please message me directly thru tripadvisor.

Check Royal Palms in the Piscadera area, walking distance to a few restaurants. Blue Bay resort is nice but no restaurants walking distance, only the one onsite. Also Royal Sea Aquarium (I think it's called)

I think either Blue Bay Golf and Beach Resort or Royal Palm Resort at Piscadera would be a good choice that meet most criteria, but neither meet all of your criteria. We considered both areas before buying a place at Blue Bay. BB is a very large resort with private homes and "hotels" (actually privately owned condos with rental centrally managed by the resort). It offers an on-resort beach, dive shop, snorkeling, kayaks, beach shop, massage spa, golf, and tennis. RP is much smaller scale and does not have these amenities and you'll have to drive to a public beach. RP has several restaurants (Sjalotte, Pirate Bay, Tempo Doloe, and the Hilton and Marriott restaurants) as well as the Marriott casino within walking distance; BB has only one on site (AzZuro restaurant) and a snack bar and a couple of beach bars. They also have servers who will bring food and drinks to your beach lounges during the day. Both properties are luxury-class apartments. Either choice, you will need to drive your rental car to get all you want, but you will find that driving is not all that bad on the island. I really can't comment on the Seaquarium or Jan Thiel areas as we never spend much time there, but my impression is that that part of the island is very much more commercialized and crowded, not my cup of tea. All a matter of your personal priorities as to which is right for you. Regardless of what you choose, you have made a great choice already to come to Curacao. Enjoy your vacation!
