Marriott vs Renaissance

Greetings! Ive done a bit of research online, and reviewed older posts on the forum.

I am looking for input comparing the Marriott vs the Renaissance hotels.

Never been to Curacao before. Looking for proximity to restaurants (non-resort ones), nice beaches, and a day or two of diving. Similar price between the two.

We will be visiting in June.

Thanks in advance!

Tim

R is downtown and M is not

M has a real beach and R has a man made beach style pool with sand and seawater. Very nicely done.

R has much more restaurants within walking distance than the M(only 2 non resort restaurants within distance)

The 2 properties are like 4/5min from each other by car

While the beach at M is nice the best beaches on the island are out west you need a car to get there.

Both are nice properties

I think you will be good at both it really depends on your preference.

You are planning on renting a car ?

Thanks for the info! I typically rent a jeep when on islands. I guess whichever property has nicer grounds, given ill have to drive to restaurants etc.

They are 2 of the top resorts on the Island but it sounds like you might be happier at Marriott.

Rent a vehicle, car or jeep, for your stay. Well worth the cost.

Cars can be rented from local companies for about $40.00 per day including insurance.

It is needed to visit the best beaches on the west side of the island, about 15 minutes from the Marriott.

Thanks for the advice. I am not one to hang out at a resort, so a car it is and 15 minutes is nothing! Getting excited

I've stayed at both places. Rooms at the Ren are nicer. If you want beach front, the Marriott is your only option. Ocean view rooms are better at the Ren., although a cruise ship will probably block 30% of your view. (Still better than those at the Marriot)t. Lowest priced rooms at each resort are problematic, although those at the Ren are absolutely horrid (your view is a dark ballroom). Sunsets are much better at the Marriott due to the cruise ships at the Ren. The Boardwalk Beach Bar at the Marriott is a nice place to watch the sun set.

The Marriott has the advantage of a real beach. Both have nice pools, but the one at the Ren is better (some may differ with that opinion). Marriott has two huge hot tubs...don't remember seeing any hot tub at the Ren.

The dive shop both resorts use is At the Marriott. I'm pretty sure the dive shop will pick you up from the Ren.

The Ren has the advantage of being walking distance to many great restaurants. If you are a breakfast eater, the Ren is much better due to the options a short walk away.

If you gamble, the casino at the Ren is much better.

You can't go wrong with either property unless you go for a cheap room.

I really appreciate all the guidance, thanks so much!

It seems like both resorts are relatively nice. We are not the type who cares tremendously about how recently the room has been updated, I just want clean and comfortable. We are only in the room to shower and sleep, and if its only a five minute drive to the Ren location where all the restaurants are located, we can handle that.

Looks like the Marriott is slightly ahead due to having a natural beach, just in case we want one lazy day at the resort.

Now, will parking in town be an issue that we could otherwise mitigate if we were walking from the Ren?

Thanks again!

Thanks Bill, so if I stay at the Marriott, I can just park at the Ren and walk to restaurants?

Rental question, I have been throughout the VI where a 4x4 is required. I dont think CUR will require 4x4, but I have found some Jeep Wranglers for rent. Do rental agencies typically allow you to drop the rag top on the Jeeps? Thanks again!

Yes park in parking lot at the Rennaissance and walk to restaurants. Also make use of the same lot when visiting town.
