On cruise by myself - snorkeling options?

I will be in Curacao from 1pm -11pm while on a cruise. I want to snorkel for as long as it is light!

For ease of transportation, quality of snorkeling & safety, would Blue Bay or the Marriot be best? Any other suggestions?

What would a taxi cost to get to the resorts or should I try to navigate public tx since I am by myself?

Thanks!

The Marriotts reef is OK, but I prefer the one by the Sunscape and seaquarium. Day passes to sunscape are $85 which would include drinks and food since it is an all inclusive. Less than 15 minutes from cruise ship dock. Very safe reef to snorkel and lots of toys, too.

What kind of toys? Water trampoline?

No water trampoline yet, but paddle boats, kayaks, catamarans, windsurfers and snorkel gear. There are two anchored rafts out there, too.

For less than $40.00 / day, you can rent a car from D&D who will drop the car off to you and pick it back up at the ship.

When we rent from them it usually takes 3 minutes to pick it up and less than 2 to drop it off.

That's less time than waiting for a cab and probably less than 2 taxi fares.

There are some great snorkel/dive beaches, much better than the resorts, that have food and bath facilities.

Most have a modest $2.00 - $10.00 access fee.

Thanks for the information!

nick d - do you think driving and finding a place to park is fairly easy on the island? Would you consider Cas Abou or Playa Lagun better for snorkeling? If I drove it would open up the other parts of the island. Just a little hesitant because I am by myself.

Playa Porto Marie is closer than either Cas Abou or Playa Lagun - less than 1/2 hour from cruise terminal. Better snorkelling here IMO

It is a bit less expensive, has a good beach restaurant and pretty good snorkelling. Weekends can be a bit crowded at all snorkel spots - which day of the week are you in town?

Bring lots of one dollar bills - entry, chair rental, lockers if you want one (-all will be less than $20 total)

@Castforkids it is easy to find parking. Driving on the island is not a big deal. If your ship docks at megapier on the otrabanda side of town. It is a fairly easy drive to the west side of the island. There are some rental companies that offer GPS. I have no idea how handy these are.

But if you are not comfortable driving on your own I personally would stick to some other form of transportation.

The GPS we had last trip ($5.00/day) was pretty accurate, but having been there several times was a waste for us. Needed it twice.

If you haven't been there, it would definately be a good expence.

Curacao is one of the easier and safe island, to navigate, in the Carib.

Dot is correct.

Playa Porto Marie is much cleaner and friendly.

Don't be concerned about the road that leads to it.

It is typical of all thr roads that lead to the good beaches.

Remember, Curacao is a very friendly island, not like most in the carib.

For a day it's your best option.

The snorkling is pretty good, but not as good as some of the small secluded sites which are not as friendly looking.
