gps

I've read the opinion of many travelers that a GPS is very helpful around the island.

Does anyone know what type/model of GPS is used in Curacao? I look into my friend's Garmin GPS unit and it didn't look like there were maps available for Curacao.

I was also wondering if there is a way to upload a program to a smartphone that will give you the maps/directions that a car GPS will.

Thanks.

Google GPS Curacao. There's an outfit that sells a Garmin map for Curacao and I remember seeing a link to an Android/ iPhone app (maybe I'm wrong, but I would be hesitant to use something for a phone due to the potential airtime or data charges).

Thanks for that suggestion. Checked & it's $19.95-the car rental agency was $5.00 a day--not sure we'll even bother with it. Half the fun of exploring the island is getting lost!

I'd rather rely on maps than worry about another valuable while in the water...

It's a small island with basically one road. Plain "old' paper map will do you fine :)
