van der Valk Beach

I am going to Curacao for one day on a cruise, and the cruise line offers an excursion to van der Valk Beach. Has anyone ever been there, and what is the beach and water like ( crystal clear)? Can a cab take us there, and if so how much would it be from the cruise port to the beach? Thanks for the help!

Vand der valk is a Dutch hotel chain. (Google them)

In Curacao they run two properties

The Plaza Hotel - smack downtown. When your ship docke it will be the tallest building on the point opposite the entrance to the port.

The Kon Tiki Beach Club.

As far as I can gather, it is at the Seaquarium beach. See:

www.curacao.com under dining for their ad.

You will find reviews if you search google "kon tiki curacao"

You get the convenience of being escorted. I would not rated it as one of the best beach on the island but it may be good enough for what you want.

I don't think it is equal to Porto Mari, Grotte Knip or Kas Abou as a laying around beach - but it is convenient to you

PS

you can go by cab - about $13 each way. Cross floating bridge to take cab. One should be easily available 150 yards from the end of the bridge or in front of the Plaza Hotel.

PPS

it is right next door to Breeze. A new resort nestled between breeze and Mambo Beach.

Read the beach description for Breeze, nearly the same conditions. Outside the barriers, it could be choppy.

It is an ok beach not the nicest beach in Curacao. Here are some questions for you...

Do you have kids?

Age ranging 20ish-30ish?

Do you snorkel or plan on snorkeling?

I ask these questions b/c there are more kids at this beach. It is next to Breezes and across the way is the Sea Aquarium. If you have kids it could be the ideal beach. Everything is in walking distance. There are several bars/restaurants right there.

Snorkeling is not the best but if are a snorkeler and can swim, you could adventure out on the other side of the rocks. There is a jetty made of rocks that protect the beach from the strong current but you can definitely snorkel on the outside of the rock. There is an opening in the middle of the jetty. i suggest swimming against the current to the Sea Aquarium. That is where the jetty ends and you can walk the beach back. there was plenty to see along the rocks and visibility was fair. Some days it was great, other days it was ok. We saw tons of various species of fish, along with barracudas, a school of squid, coral (a little growth on the rocks but about 30 yards out there is a reef).

Enjoy!
