Havana tour 17/18 October 2009 arranged by Jorge

We went to Havana for a weekend overnight trip while staying at Jibacoa Breezes.

This we arranged before we left UK using Jorge a guide who I found here on TA. Send a private message for contact details.

Jorge arranged for Pepe to collect us at 9.00 on 17th at our beach resort. He drove us to the Park View hotel in Old Havana where we met our guide Alex.

After we checked in, Alex who is local and knowledgeable took us on a 5 hour walking tour of the old city. He explained the history and culture of Cuba and Havana in accessible and interesting ways.

The tour was broken up with an excellent and incredibly cheap lunch with daiquiris at the Oriental Garden and mojitos at O'Reillys.

Jorge and Alex had arranged for us to spend the evening dining at the wonderful Sea View private house restaurant followed by the Casa de la Musica in Central Havana.

On the second day we had a motor tour again with Alex as guide and Pepe our driver. We also had very good mojitos in the Nacional hotel before returning to Jibacoa for dinner.

Alex had such passion for his city and country and I intend to find out so much more about the history and culture of this fascinating destination.

Jorge provided a personalised and professional guide service and chose his guide and driver well for our particular needs. I would not hesitate to recommend Jorge when you are organising your trip to Havana.

Please send a private message of you would like to have Jorge's contact details.

It would be best to ask Jorge for a quote as he personalised our trip and chose the hotel and restaurant based on our budget.

Too many variables were involved in the price to be more specific.

Good luck with the trip

its really not a good idea to guess ...

Jorge as well as other guides custom a service for each customer...and price accordingly.

And since you don't know all features asked for a particular customer, you don't know what expenses the guide had and will be passing on to you.

Let's just say I've used Jorge's services (using Dania as guide) and was happy with everything incl the price.

Just contact him, let him know what specifically you want (or general idea which can be finetuned) and ask for a price... If you're unhappy with it , its easy to walk away.

Thats fine, i have heard great things about jorge, but i have alos heard the tours are quite pricey, I guess if money is not a factor this is likly the ebst route to go, if money is a factor i honestly feel fine in saying this way is out of the question..

Depends on what you mean pricey..

Like anywhere else a professional guide will cost more than someone' friend of someone's brother of someone's uncle.....

If all you want is for a professional guide to walk around parts of old Havana you won't find the price bad at all.

But if you want to add pickup from your out of town resort, lunch, touring in a 56 buick etc, of course, the price increases and some people will find it quite pricey because the haven't factored in all these extras.

You can't make blanket statements about private tours unless you're speaking from direct experience, or you've submitted an itinerary request and the quote you received was too high.

An elderly friend of mine just returned from a private tour that included having her met at the bus station, checked into a casa particular to freshen up, a walking tour through Old Havana, a drive down the Malecon in an old classic convertible, dinner in a paladar, overnight accommodation in the casa particular and an escort back to the bus station to return to Varadero all for less than 100 CUC. That's a fair deal by any measure.

Cheers,

Terry
