Cuba / Havana After Irma

It seems to have passed through now but does anyone hav more information on the damage there? Anything we can do for people who might be travelling to Havanna in the next few weeks? Is anyone reconsidering their trip? We are wondering what would be the best course of action as we'll be travelling next month.

I received emails from the Saratoga yesterday.

"A glass in the pool area , a sign that broke down but except this all is ok ."

They are probably waiting until the electricity is back to confirm the position.

I received answer from my airbnb host. The building is very close to Malecon but it did not suffer any damage. They say electric and communication services have already been restored and before September 15th Havana will return to normal.

Hi we have a casa particular in central Havana and are about 4 blocks back from the malecon where the flooding was.. the flooding has pretty musch gone, streets are cleaned up and electricity in most areas have been turned back on.

Luckily Havana did not get hit directly by the hurricane.. the main damage was from the wind causing high waves on the malecon which resulted in the flooding. Everything will be back to normal by Wednesday latest in Havana!

The airport is opening today from 12 oclock mid day!

No need for people to be cancelling their holidays if they are due to travel this week :)

The Cuban people need the tourism and will be happy to see you!

I am due to come out tomorrow and have been a little reassured by some of the later posts. I do tend to think that the last thing the Cuban people need at this time is for tourists to desert them, so I'll be there tomorrow.
