It seems to have passed through now but does anyone hav more information on the damage there? Anything we can do for people who might be travelling to Havanna in the next few weeks? Is anyone reconsidering their trip? We are wondering what would be the best course of action as we'll be travelling next month.

Hello,

I came back home from Cuba on Friday and from my perspective there are no flights to Cuba right now. The island was prepared for the hurricane, so the beaches were cleaned: all the hotels took away their umbrellas and boats and the pools were covered. There was electricity problem on the main airport when I was leaving.I think in a week it should come back to normal. Do not consider flying by plane right now, not a good experience :)

I am due to be there on the 16th which is next Saturday. I will be staying in Old Havana for a couple of days ands then on to Vererado. Is it safe to say my vacation is still on after Irma.

Hello,

My plans were to vacation in Havana in October as well and I have already started looking into other countries for a change in plans. I did purchase travel Insurance from Delta and can cancel or change for whichever reason without question or penalty. I had booked my Casas with Airbnb and both are fully refundable. I will be making a final decision by the end of the week based on reports of the situation in Havana. With all the flooding and lack of electricity I have read about and watched, I am concerned about mold.

Hi - yes if anyone has any additional info on the state of Havana, I would really appreciate it. We are supposed to be traveling there next week and we are unable to get a hold of our airbnb contact on the island.

Checking with airlines but not getting much helpful feedback as of yet.

Hi, I got the response below from our AirBnB host today from Havana. Due to fly there on the 15th. No word from Vinales, Trinidad, Varadero yet but will update if I hear something;

Thank god the apartment and the building are OK, in Havana there are some affectations but the hurricane did not pass directly through there, there have been sea penetrations near the Malecon but we hope that in these days everything must return to normal. There are still problems with electricity and water supply today, but we are confident that they will be resolved in the next few hours.

i think from what I have seen on media "resolved in the next few hours" is pretty unrealistic...In Havana no water or power and the water is a major issue from Malecon in many blocks of Centro and Vedado...more than the annual floods that happen when water goes over the Malecon.I think Havana is probably in much better shape than so many of the islands and resorts and look forward to updates when people can report....hoping for the best for all affected.

Gene - the floods are bad - but they don't much different to those after Hurricane Wilma. And then, parts of the wall on the Malecon were moved across the street. Yes, the Malecon was out of action for some time, but most of the city was fully in action in a few days.

i'm due to travel there on Saturday (16th). So far the hotel haven't emailed me back but I am presuming that this is due to the electricity outages they are experiencing.

Am flying with United, they are telling me there is no 'travel advisory' against traveling there. So if I choose not to go then it is my choice and i will have to pay for rebooking.

Will provide updated if I hear anything further from the hotel, tour company or United.
