Bonaire pictures - mostly underwater

My trip report and glowing review of Coral Paradise to follow, but I finally posted my pictures to Flickr over the weekend!

I admit, I took way too many pictures of the 2 octopi - but I stalked them for an hour waiting for them to get octopussy - and only when another snorkeler approached did they open up.....

Nice pics, thank you. That fish you are asking about looks like a scorpion fish to me! They have those lovely fan shaped fins on the sides.

Great pictures. We will be in Bonaire in 3 weeks.

Did you snorkel on your own? From my other post everyone recommended Woodwind - however we will only be in Bonaire for a day and this is the only day they DO NOT have snorkel tours....what a Bummer.

hallmark, just take a taxi to any one recommended snorkel site and spend the

hours there. Or go to Klein Bonaire with water taxi - fabulous beach and snorkel site.

I didnt go on the Woodwind. I did go with Renee twice. Once during the day which was sort of eh and a great night snorkel tour, which I highly recommend.

Had every intention of going to Klein Bonaire by water taxi, but knew that would be the thing impacted by cruise passengers. I should have gone on Wednesday - the day there was no ship, but I had Renee scheduled for that night and didnt want to be exhausted.

everything you read about not leaving valuables on the beach or in your car is true. A couple divers in my hotel were diving with came ashore to find the bag with their rental car keys stolen. The logistics of going snorkeling without bringing anything but my driver's license, car/room keys and a $20 in my waterproof pouch was sort of something I had to plan for. You cant spend the day lolling on a beach with your Kindle, sunglasses, etc - unless you have people to watch your stuff while you're in the water. You cant go straight to lunch.... I know it sounds petty in the face of people who need the money more than I do, but it is something you always have to be thinking about. Not sure why this was such an issue specific to Bonaire - I certainly go to places where there is more poverty and petty theft. I guess its more normal for me to do a boat trip, or leave straight from my hotel without involving a car......

Loved your pictures and your website! How can you have too many pictures of octopi? LOl - We have booked our 8th bonaire trip for next spring - staying at the Hamlet Oasis for the first time - I am hoping we find your octopi! Your pictures are great - I am going to check out the camera you used. Thanks for posting!

Have a great trip - and thank you for the compliments about the web site! I wish I could give you a landmark to find the octopi, but they moved.

you will get some huge iguanas at Hamlet Oasis - a woman in one of the front houses on the way to Captain Don's feeds a big one at dusk, and it's usually there waiting.

WOW! Your pictures remind me of why my husband and I like Bonaire so much. They look like what I remember seeing as opposed to the countless terrible pictures of beautiful fish I've taken with disposable cameras. I especially liked the honeycomb cowfish and the octopi - you can never have too many octopus pictures. I was thinking about getting a Canon D10, and your pictures make me sorry I didn't get one before I went to Curacao in Sept.

Fantastic pictures! We took a naturalist course when we were in Bonaire last fall and found out that octopuses are solitary until the end of their life cycle. Then they spend the last month of their lives having sex. So, you ended up with great shots of octopi porn! Can't wait for our next trip...
