First Time in Barbados

Hi Everyone,

I will be travelling to Barbados for the first time in mid March. We are staying at Waves Resort.

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the following things:

1) Places to visit or tours

2) Nice Beaches

3) Nightlife for 30-something-year olds

4) Anything else we should know.

Thanks everyone!

Well done on choosing such a fantastic place to stay. You will absolutely love the Waves.

For things to do in Barbados:

Visit Harrison's Cave

Visit Hunte's Gardens

Take a dive on the Atlantis Submarine

Visit the Barbados Wildlife Reserve

Visit St Nicholas Abbey and sample some of their legendary rum and tour the historic house

Take a Catamaran Cruise on Cool Runnings or the more luxurious and relaxed Silver Moon

Visit the Barbados Concorde Experience

Take a 4x4 Adventureland Island Tour

Visit Cherry Tree Hill for breath-taking views of the island

Visit Bathsheba, have lunch over at the Atlantis Hotel in Tent Bay

Visit Hackleton's Cliff for breath-taking views of the island

Visit St. John's Parish Church

Gun Hill Signal Station is also fantastic

Visit Oistins on a Friday night around 19:00, have dinner at Pat's Place, the dishes are delightful. Be sure to try the Grilled Marlin!

If you're into history, visit Sunbury Great House, also a great place for having lunch

For shopping, visit the world-class Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in Holetown, St. James where you can shop at Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren just to name a few.

For clubbing visit Sugar Ultra Lounge and the Reggae Lounge in St. Lawrence Gap, Harbour Lights on Bay Street and Priva in Holetown.

For nice beaches visit Alleynes Beach, Mullins, Heywoods, Rockley, Enterprise, Crane and Bottom Bay.

Do take a look at www.totallybarbados.com where you will find a wealth of quality and up-to-date information on the island.

Regards

See the Barbados Museum, the George Washington House and the Turf Club (racetrack), all in the Savannah Garrison area. Changing of the guard (most days) at 11:45. Or on Thursdays the museum has an organized tour of the whole Garrison area; admission includes transportation from hotel plus light food; alternatively there are evening walking tours; for either one, call James at 233-2601 or Peter at 233-1648 for reservations.

Visit Parliament and the adjacent National Heroes Gallery; the oldest synagogue in the New World is around the corner, with a nice museum next door.

For local cabaret-style entertainment, Laff It Off productions has shows at the St. Gabriel School, current show is Yuh Got to Pay about recent tax increases. Funny and raunchy.

In addition to Oistens check out the Moontown Fish Fry in St. Lucy - 5 Banks $10 BBD, DJ, karaoke Fridays, Limbo Sundays

Have tea at Sunbury (much cheaper than lunch!)

Visit the Agapay Chocolate factory (advance reservation only, www.agapey.com/chocolatefactory.html

If you go to Gun Hill, go for the "Howling" cocktail party, which takes place once a month on the Friday closest to the full moon. Ceremonial lowering of the flag at sundown with bugler, $15 US admission includes drinks and finger food/snacks.

"Hike Barbados" sponsors walks at various places and once a month by moonlight, with groupings by difficulty (we favor the "stop and stare" beginners!)

The National Trust sponsors weekly visits/tours to historic homes, can be quite fun; the ladies serve, or course, the very best rum punch.

It's Polo season! Matches are at 3:15 pm and 4:15 pm. Call 432-1802 to confirm.

Mar 13: At Apes Hill

Mar 16: At Lion Castle

Mar 18: At Holders

Mar 20: At Apes Hill

Mar 23: At Holders - FINAL

Don't do it all Jen. You need to fit in some chillin' time, rum drinkin' and something to do when you come back!

This thread should be a sticky. The things to do section on the green tab is not as interesting.

Definitely needs to be a sticky post.

Great reply BGI. Was going to put a similar post asking for info, but no need to now. Very informative and look forward to our trip in a weeks time to try some of the items.

As usual BGIWT comes up trumps, what a perfect example of a proud Bajan.
