So we were wondering how many food trucks are round the island? Are they is different locations everyday or usually in the same spots.
Any recommendations on which ones to try?
where are you going to be staying - west coast or south coast - makes a big difference as the food trucks are more or less in the same places
You will usually find food vans wherever there are workers who need food. Each vendor has a licence for his/ her pitch and therefore do not change .
In order for people to give advise , please let us know in which area you will be staying . Please also note that vans usually only serve food at lunchtime, but you will find some stalls and fish fries that open at night.
Now I remember - you are staying at Porters Gate - so ...
there are food stands by Trents playing fields (across the road from Discovery Bay hotel) - Papa Earl makes Ital food (Rasta vegetarian) lunchtime - and there is Rocknet Grill that operates Thurs Fri Sat nights in that location too - over on the street by the Massy supermarket - the lunch truck (van) parks there at around midday - serves food like flying fish - cutter or a lunch plate with peas n rice, mac pie, etc - or - chicken etc. - Further down south of Sandy Lane -Sandra operates a lunch van - at night there is often a foodstand to be had on 1st street (across the road from LimeGrove) -
Edited: 7 years agoOne can buy cooked fish at the roadside stand called the Rocknet Grill by the Trent playing field in Holetown - they have tables and benches - they start serving food at about 7.30pm - call 269-3125 or 267-6049 if you want to know what they are cooking that evening
Yes I will be staying in porters gate however we will have a car
Can you recommend any in St Lawrence Gap please?
Leroy parks his food van up by Divi Southwinds hotel at about 1pm Mon - Fri.
Dave if you go north to Speightstown for the day there is a food truck parked near National bank (on the main street, Queen St.) and one usually in front of the CIBC bank on the same street. Also a great Chefette (kind of like a KFC/Harveys but better) on the highway. You can also buy your fruit and vegetable from the street vendors. I don't remember any food trucks in the gap but I may be wrong. Lots of restaurants though. No food trucks in Bathsheba. You must take a drive over there (east coast) since you will have a car.
Dave if you go over to Bathsheba then stop at Martins Bay . It's not far from there . The fish fry happens most days I believe , but the main day is Thursday which is very busy . Try to get there for 11am to get a seat . Also while your out and about try Cuz's down by The Hilton . Great fish cutter sandwiches and ice cold beers on a fantastic beach .
Edited: 7 years agoLeroy parks his food van in the Gap outside Divi Southwinds around 2:00 pm Monday to Friday. Sometimes he's a little earlier. Good local food at reasonable prices. I sometimes take a lunch home and it does me for two days.
