No - not as far as i know - the locals do it a lot.... and Marvin (glass bottom boat guy) often arranges to BBQ fish caught by guests who have had an outing on Marvelous 1 with him,,,,

Bonfires on the beach are illegal and if you hold a large "event " on the beach then you need permission from the Head of the Beach Rangers . However, a discreet BBQ that doesn't affect or annoy anyone else should be fine We do it all the time .

Would think it would need to be somewhere not too busy so as not to disturb others with the smoke. Bottom bay would be a lovely spot if you could find somewhere sheltered to put the bbq.

If you are planning on doing this on a beach away from where you are staying, then I think you will need to ask permission. There is a big difference between having a discreet BBQ on the beach outside your accommodation and rocking up on a miscellaneous beach and setting up camp.

Westie and Boscar make a good point - there is a vast difference from "Holding a BBQ Event " - a large affair with lots of people and major disruption in some special location - and a couple/family with a mini BBQ (they used to sell mini bbqs at the Supercentre - one time use little things) discreetly bbqing their dinner on an empty part of the beach outside where they are staying.....and not causing any annoyance to others.... IMHO
