Is it true that the Carriage House Restaurant is closed? That was our favorite.

YUP...The CARRAIGE HOUSE restaurant on Water Street in downtown Saint George's closed a few weeks ago (sometime around Christmas, 2009). The owner, George Hoermann, died and the family decided to close the restaurant. The Carraige House had been a minor 'institution' in downtown Saint George's for twenty-seven(27) years.

The financial fortunes of Saint George's have taken a serious 'hit' from the decline in seasonal cruise ship passengers the closure of the Saint George's Golf Course and the decline in Beruda tourism in general and general economic conditions and uncertainties.

The owner of the building itself has expressed a desire to keep a restaurant operation on the premises...but no plans for a replacement operation in the foreseeable future have been announced. The VERA P. CARD shop (relocated from downtown Hamilton last year) in the same building remains open.

What impact is this having on the St. George's club timeshares? Not having a golf course could be a real problem.

From what I've heard...the timeshare holders have been having difficulty finding alternative '..renters..' for un-used timeshare 'weeks'. I've also heard some anecdotal reports that maintenance and upkeep of the condos and property in general at the Saint George's Club has begun to slip.

Thanks for the info. Long ago we had considered buying there but decided it was too out of the way- we really like the South Shore beaches. But by now, I think we would have gotten our money's worth out of the properrty, but it is always sad to see a property struggling.
