Thanks- need more help

KDKSail- thanks for all your advice on where to stay (where to stay 10/21) I booked the Surf Side on Expedia based on your logic- and recommendations. Bermuda obsessed also helped -9beaches sounded nice but we want to see as MUCH of Bermuda as possible and 9 beaches sounded limiting.

Expedia just called and let me know that Surf Side is over booked and relocated me to the Wyndham Resort/Spa. I leave in a couple of days - can anyone recommend anything close for food and entertainment that would give a more natural less resort feel - a better sense of Bermuda.

Sorry...I can't quite believe that SURFSIDE is completely booked (even at its basic '..Deluxe..' category rooms) at this season of the year. You might try telephoning SURFSIDE-- http://www.surfsidebermuda.com/ --directly and check...and then re-contact EXPEDIA about your original reservation.

But if you MUST stay at the Wyndham, then the restaurants at The Reefs Hotel (just up the hill, above the water park and tennis courts) are excellent choices...as is HENRY VIII, just to the left, along the South Road. There is usually entertainment here during the season...but since the season is now over, I'm not sure whether the entertainment is also. Check with the front desk to find out.. TIO PEPE'S, on the South Road does really good pizza...but little else.

If you're on your way into downtoown Hamilton by bus in the early morning, you can stop at the PARAQUEET RESTAURANT (more like a diner, really) along the South Road for a really good breakfast. The LIGHT HOUSE TEA ROOM, up at Gibb's Hill Light also does a good breakfast and lunch.

KDK - just a point of information, the tennis courts at the Wyndham are no longer. When we there in July, they were filled with debris, from the previous years hurricane. I asked one of the maintenance men about them and he said they were going to construct something there, not sure what.

LUCKY - I can't believe they booked you into the Wyndham. If I were you I'd try to be placed into another property.

THE REEFS has nightly entertainment in their lounge.

Poppa - I stayed at the Wyndham this past summer. They told me that a new group of bungalow-style buildings were being contsructed where the courts once stood.

Lucky- I agree w/ Poppa. We stayed at the Wyndham in July and were not too happy with the majority of the service, restaurants, and the property in general. It wasn't horrile-but for the amount we were paying we expected more.

Lucky......that is a down sell in my opinion. Surf Side is small and quiet and Wyndam is a larger hotel with a water park. Nah. I wouldn't do it. I second the idea of calling Surf Side yourself. Pompano would seem to be a lateral move in my opinion. The Reefs is great but much more pricey.

We stopped there last July as well and saw the mess that the tennis courts were in. I knew that condos (or whatever euphemism the owners of the Wyndham are using these days) were part of the re-developmet plan approved by various planning authorities after the property finally changed hands in 2003. I wasn't sure where on the property this condo development was supposed to be constructed.

Hard to believe that Surf Side is booked full, especially at this time of year.

There is no comparison to the two properties - and the Wyndham is a "no" in my opinion. Call Surf Side direct as suggested...then follow through with Expedia.
