Family vacation with 21 and 18 year old

I need help please! We are a family of 4 trying to book 2 rooms in Aruba for the December holiday. Since our children are older my husband thinks an AI would be the best to keep costs within reason (college bills too!). This is our first visit to Aruba and I always prefer to be away from the city that is why I chose Palm Beach area. Suggestions please! Diva Aruba vs. Tamarijn, or Occidental Grand? I read in one of the forums that there isn't much nightlife at the Divi, is that true? For my husband and I, doesn't matter - another story for the "kids". How "tired" is the Divi/Tamarijn? Any suggestions otherwise are thankfully welcomed!

Have you looked into The RIU? Not much night life at any of the resorts. How old are the kids and what kind of night life would they be looking for?

We have been twice with our "kids" - in 2008 when they were 23 and 20 and this year when they were 25 and 22. We own at the Divi Phoenix so we do not do all inclusive but do cook breakfast and make lots of our own cocktails.

It does get expensive but you can keep costs down. If you rent a timeshare unit from someone you can cook some of your own meals. If you want a hotel that is not all inclusive there are plenty of lower priced meals to be found. We always bring a cooler and take it to the beach with our own alcohol beer/wine and this saves a lot of money. Also pick up snacks at the store.

I would suggest staying on Palm Beach with this age as there is much more to see and do. There is the Holiday Inn which is all inclusive if you want and where it is not the "top" hotel on the island you will find many families with kids in your age group so they can meet others.

We did a catamaran sailing right next to the holiday inn (Roberto's) which was $35 per per and served lunch, snacks and open bar. We did two snorkling stops and the "kids" had a ball and the age group was just right for them. There is also the Kukunu Party Bar which is lots of fun and tends to have a younger crowd. My husband and I love it as well. You can either book it with dinner (which is fun and a great way to meet your fellow party bus riders) and then they stop at 3 or 4 bars for dancing and fun or you can just do the bar crawl.

The new mall in Palm Beach has tons of restaurants both upscale and family friendly and lots of little bars to hang out at. This is all walking distance from the hotels on Palm Beach.

Bugaloe on Palm Beach and Moombas on Palm Beach are beach bars which are great fun at night with live music and dancing.

Also, Divi and Tam are both on Eagle Beach which is much quieter and I would definitely suggest Palm Beach when traveling with 21 and 18 year olds.

We have two "kids," now ages 22 aned 20, and they have been with us to Aruba a number of times. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn, Marriott Surf Club, Divi Links and area staying at Playa Linda in a few weeks. Trading into Divi Phoenix next May. My daughter, 22, preferred the Marriott out of those three, mainly because of the lazy river. There are tons of kids at this resort, though, and getting a chair at the pool is quite a chore.

My son, 20, doesn't care where we stay as long as he gets good meals and can get to the Holiday Inn Casino to play poker. He certainly has enjoyed the lower age limit for gambling in Aruba. And as long as he gets his steaks at El Gaucho and Texas de Brazil, he's pretty happy.

They both really enjoyed the jeep tour to the Natural Pool. They actually like hanging around the pool areas more than the beach.

Forgot to mention, my son and I also took golf lessons at Divi Links, which was a lot of fun. Any my daughter is a tennis player, and she and her dad (and sometimes me), played on the Divi Links courts most days when we stayed there (we own a timeshare at Divi Links). We really like the condos at Divi Links, there are some good restaurants, a beautiful pool area, but it is across the street from the beach (which doesn't bother us), and it also is away from the "action" on Palm Beach, so you would need a car, or taxis are readily available.

The beach is our #1 priority that is why I chose this area. If our "kids" want to go to a club at the Palms I'm assuming they can catch a cab. From other posts I've read it appears to be fairly close and, is it safe? My husband prefers the AI because they like their 3 meals a day. Personally, I can hang on the beach all day. I would definitely want to take a day to see the island and what it has to offer so the side trips everyone has mentioned has been very helpful.

We are beachbums, but I do like my creature comforts so I was just wondering which one the Divi or the Tamarijn? I know they are attached, but how easily accessible is it to go to the Divi if you are staying at the Tam?

Very safe for them to bar or casino hop at night.

If you s..t..r..o..l..l to the Divi from the Tam, you can get there in ten minutes. If you walk at a brisker pace, you can get there in five!
