car rental, parking, island permit fee?

Hello everyone,

Need some advice...Aruba trip for the 1st time for 6 days.

We are staying at the Aruba Grand on Palm Beach.

Rent car for 3 or 6 days? planning to see natural pools and Arikok national park, baby beach and Arashi beach for snorkeling on our own, to see the island in general, and for going out to restaurants.

Parking costs and how convenient is it?

Car rental company mentioned an island permit fee of $6 dollars?

Is this true?

Thanks for your help!

The Aruba Grand is closed for renovations, it will be the RUI, when are you going? Do you have the right hotel? It would depend on where you are actually staying as to whether you would need the car for 3 or 6 days. 6 days would be more efficient.

We rent a car every year in Aruba. Parking is free at the hotels and in the parking lots downtown.

Never heard of an "island permit fee" - there is no need for one in Aruba when parking is free.

You should check the name of the hotel you're staying at - do yo mean the Occidental Grand Aruba?

There was a hotel in Aruba called the Aruba Grand but it is closed right now for renovations and will become the Riu Palace Aruba when it reopens.

Sorry, meant RIU and more convenient. There is at least one parking lot in town (by the grocery store) that charges to park. We had a hard time finding parking earlier this month in town. Also the parking lot across from the Hyatt charges to park. The Hyatt casino used to pay the fee if you used the casino, but no longer does.

ooops, we will not be staying at the aruba grand but one of the hotels

near the Radisson on Palm Beach.

Rent car for 3 or 6 days to see the above mentioned places?

Would it be worth it to rent a car for 3 days to tour the island on our own and remainder 3 days take cabs or the bus, since we are planning to be beach bums the last 3 days and just leaving hotel to get lunch/dinner?

Are roads marked in english and how easy is it to get around by car?

If we walk along the beach how far is the walk from Radisson to the Marriott?
