Amsterdam Manor - For Aruba Amy (and anyone else!)

We are vacationing in Aruba in may with another couple. I have been once before and we stayed at the Radisson and loved it. We would prefer to a 2 BR unit though so we can all stay together. So i have some questions about Amsterdam Manor...

Are all the 2 BR units Oceanview?

Is it really not a pain to have to cross the street to get to the beach?

Which restaurants are within walking distance?

Is the water rougher at Eagle Beach vs. Palm Beach?

And how about the beach bar? One thing we loved about staying at the Rad was the close proximity to Kokoa's/Bugaloe's.

And finally does anyone have any pics of the inside of a 2 Br unit?

Thanks so much!!!

1. All of the 2 br/2 baths are on the 2nd floor and face the ocean. Some will have better views than others because of the palm trees being in the way.

2. Not at all. You're closer to the water's edge than you would be in the high rise hotels. Only takes a few steps to cross and there is a pedestrian crosswalk.

3. Mango's and Passions (at Amsterdam Manor), Le Petite Cafe, Chalet Suisse, and Tulip are all within walking distance. The new Key Largo Casino which just opened in Sept. is also within walking distance.

4. Eagle Beach is generally very calm with light waves. You can still relax on a floatie in the water. (see link below for photos)

5. Amsterdam Manor has a beach bar where you can order drinks and lunch.

6. I have a photo from one of my trip reports (see link below.)

Here are some links to my trip reports with alot of photos of Amsterdam Manor, their beach, and beach bar (click on the small photos within the trip reports to make them larger).

There is a sewage treatment plant that sits about a 1/2 mile behind Amsterdam Manor. We have not experienced the smell but others have (depends on the time of year, weather, etc.)

However, the gov't has been ordered to increase capacity at the plant which will be completed by the end of this month. This shall take care of any smell/odor that was previously coming from the plant.

You're welcome - hope the photos help! Photos always seem to say more than words do! :)

The area around Amsterdam Manor is not as busy as the Radisson/high rise hotel area so if you're looking for alot of activity with alot of people you may not like the Eagle Beach area. There are some things to walk to but it is definitely much quieter (especially at night) than the area you stayed at before. However, the high rise hotel area is just a couple of minutes away by bus or taxi (bus stop is right in front of Amsterdam Manor.) Just a matter of what your preferences are for your vacation.

Just got back from Aruba last night. We didn't stay in the area you are talking about, but did go to a couple of restaurants in the area.

We were able to smell the sewer while on the bus and while waiting for the bus in front of the Amsterdam Manor. We stayed at the Radisson and loved it. Why not get adjoining rooms at the Radisson?

It's not far to the beach, but personally I don't want to have to cross a street to get to the beach. There are times when it gets busy on the raods.

Stayed at Amsterdam Manor many times and I can say that the road to cross is not a busy one. Again though, just a matter of personal preference as I have stayed in the high rise area many times as well and dislike taking an elevator to/from my room because it takes so long.

The time of year and weather does matter because I was there with friends in April for 10 days and was just there again in Sept. with my husband and friends again for 16 days....never had an odor/smell while we were there.

But having said that, by the end of Nov. you won't need to worry about it anymore once the work has been completed by the gov't.

If they are increasing the capacity of the sewage treatment plant, would that not mean there could be more of an odor and not less?
