Currency

My wife and I are coming to Aruba for the first time, staying at the Tamarijn all-inclusive. Of course, we will be using credit cards as much as we can, but what currency or currencies should we bring? As we are not likely to need a lot of cash, it seems a waste to bring both Aruban florins and US dollars. Are both needed? I would prefer to bring only US dollars - are they accepted everywhere?

Yes. US$ are good everywhere. We like to bring lots of small change to tip the bartenders / maids @ the Tam.

Thanks for your fast reply, SevenCostanza - much appreciated. We're coming from the UK and are not sure if it is even possible to get Aruban currency in advance!

Here's my video showing you the Aruba florin:

As stated above, dollars are used most everywhere. Bring smaller denominations, 20's, 10's because some places won't take 50's and 100's.

Enjoy your visit. Much more info about Aruba on my blog there, including plenty about local joints.

US $$$ are fine -you might end up with a few of the local florins in change but just add them to the tip you leave for the room maid rather than bring them back to the Uk

The casino's will make change and cash travelers checks. Not a bad idea to bring a mix of "types" of money.

Thanks, guys, to all of you. Based on what you have said, I intend to get US$ before I leave the UK - small bills if I can - and take just those. I don't mind getting florins in the change and, if I end up taking some back to the UK, then hey I'll just have to go back to Aruba, won't I...

We also used $ when we went to the Tam. We have always used Tesco to buy them and have never had a problem getting $1 notes from them.
