Sandals Grand Antigua Is A Place NOT To Stay

think everyone should know about Sandals Resorts. My wife and I had our honeymoon at the Grand Antgua Resort and it was the WORST show of service I had ever seen. 1) We had not been told that there is MAJOR construction going on. They are building an entire new facility, next to our room. 2) The spa was closed and we had not been told about that either. 3) They ran out of Gin TWO days in a row. 4) They ran out of amenity packs until our final day. 5) The room had MOLD all over it. 6) There was unfinished painting in the room. 7) The iron was rusty 8) There was other damage in the room as well. 9) There was an altercation with a store clerk. 10) The front desk blew us off several times. I would never stay at a Sandals again nor would I ever suggest it to anyone. The Island is amazing but stay Jolly Harbor or Jolly Beach. NEVER STAY AT A SANDALS AGAIN

Hmmmm - "there was an altercation with a store clerk" and "the front desk blew us off" - (what a ghastly expression) - sounds pornographic to me - but I wonder why they would do this??? Could it be something to do with the attitude of the guests????

Who did you book with? I would hold them somewhat accountable for not advising you of the construction not the hotel staff.

Did you RESEARCH your HONEYMOON prior to booking? If not, shame on you because this information has been all over every travel board out there if you had taken a minute to do some research. Seeing it's your first post I will go out on a limb and conclude no researching was done in advance. Sorry, this day and age with the internet at your disposal there is no excuse for being uninformed.

@ nozzie,

You have absolutely no idea about the circumstances so why assume it's the guest's fault? Why the snide comment?

@ lingua,

If the holiday isn't going well and the guest is not too impressed with the level of service then I'd be a bit pee'd off about an badly stocked bar too.

Let's not forget that jaykid1 was on honeymoon (you don't do that very often) and that they will have paid $$$$ for it.

Wow, what a tough crowd!

I'm a huge fan of Sandals, but, what jaykid1 went through is unacceptable, especially for a honeymoon.

jaykid1: It's unfortunate your honeymoon experience was not a good one, but, I agree that you should really come down on your travel agent (not sure if it will do any good at this point). Your TA should have told you about the construction and such. Also, your TA should have provided you with a # to call for any issues.

However, if you didn't use a TA, then it's really unfortunate.

I wouldn't judge all of the Sandals resorts on that particuliar experience (although I realize that's all you have to go by). Out of the 6 different Sandals resorts I've been to, I really only had issues with 2 of them (both in Jamaica). Neverless, I can definitely understand your feelings.

While you were there, did you ask to be moved to another room?

I can't assume that you haven't done any research on the resorts, but, in the future, this site is pretty good with resort reviews and Cheryls Travel Message board (www.chris-n-cheryl.com) is an excellent resource for finding info on the different caribbean resorts, especially Sandals and Secrets resorts.

Oh rich - but you see I do know about this . As you will see I have nearly 2,000 posts here and have read hundreds of thousands more. I also travel a great deal and also sell travel. I know about people who make these kinds of comments I have met and or observed thousands of them. .

Sorry to hear about JayKid's experience, but that is tempered somewhat by a strong suspicion that little research was done prior to his trip, as Nozzie has suggested.

Now I don't know that for sure, but since the construction would certainly have been one of the first things one would discover in researching Sandals, and since Jaykid didn't know about that, I think we are justified in believing that no research was done.

Still, Jaykid deserves credit for not letting a bad experience with his hotel prevent him from having enoying what Antigua has to offer.

thanks for the support kalb but I was actually commenting more about the fact that jaykid seems to have got into arguments with the staff and suggesting that his attitude may have had something to do with that - but I do also agree with others who have suggested a lack of proper research may have contributed to the bad experience.
