Antigua in late July/early August?

We are considering a holiday in Antigua in late July /early August. Can anyone advise whether this is a good idea. I realise we run the risk of a hurricane. Generally, how is the weather at this time and will many restaurants/facilities be closed?

Thanks.

The only difference is you may get a few showers a day as opposed to none/ one... We have been a few times aid that time as we are again this year. ... It's fine

While some places may be closed, especially in the English Harbour area, the majority of restaurants/bars will be open during the summer, although some may take september/october off.

Late July/August is Carnival time, so quite a few places will be open for the influx of visitors that come around that time.

The weather can be very varied. Admittedly it is in the rainy season. Some years, there are little to no showers. Other years, there may be a tropical wave/depression that may dump a few inches of rain over 3-4 days. I wouldn't be that worried about hurricanes, as they usually come September/October, although it may be a good idea to get travel insurance (better safe than sorry!). It's more the tropical storms/depressions that may cause a couple days of cloudy and rainy conditions that you may want to consider.

We were there in July and in August twice and the weather was perfect. Each time we had 1 or 2 showers (not every day but o 1 or 2 for the whole week) They lasted for 30 minutes at the most, and then the sun came out as if it had never rained. Everyone sat in the hot tub with a drink and laughed the whole time.

Have been there a few times in July and August, never had a problem. Antigua is too far south to get hurricanes. It does happen but it's rare. You'll get five minute showers where the heavens open but then it's all over and the sun comes out. Restaurant closures seem to be mainly in the English Harbour area where the yachties hang out in season. Around Jolly and Dickenson Bay areas, most places will be open.
