Fish risks

We are looking forward to our first trip to Anguilla in several weeks. We would like to buy fresh fish several times to prepare ourselves. I've read recently about Ciguatera and am a little nervous. Are the locals and restaurants aware of which species to avoid?

Yes, restaurants and most fish vendors know all about Ciguatera but you should avoid purchasing "reef fish" like Parrot Fish, Squirrel Fish, etc. as they are the ones most likely to have Ciguatera.

Look for Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Yellow Fin, Grouper and other deep water fish.

Don't forget Barracuda, also a potential carrier of Ciguatera.
