Day trip option?

We will be sailing to St Maarten in November and since we have visited there several times wondered if Anguilla might be an option for a shore excursion.

We will dock on the Dutch side from 8am - 5pm.

I saw the Ferry information, but I am not sure about the schedule or wether the seas will be too rough in November to make this trip viable...so I'm turning to the experts for information.

Ferry service between SXM and AXA is pretty reliable - the start fairly early (about the time your ship docks) and end sometime after your ship sets sail. they run about every 45 minutes during the day so scheduling shouldn't be an issue.

FYI - it's about a 20 to 25 minute trip between islands.

Sorry, no one can predict now whether the seas will be calm or rough on any particular day in November. Typically, even the most avid sailors and seamen get only a 2 or 3 day advance notice of sea conditions and even then it's always subject to change. Suffice to say, it is rare the seas are so rough that the ferries don't run. If you are concerned about sea conditions the best advice is to look at the sea conditions the day you arrive and decide for yourself if you want to make the trip.

Please make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Traffic in St. Marteen can be brutal and the trip to the ferry could take up to an hour. Maybe others would disagree, but I think you would need to be on the Anguilla ferry going back to SXM by 3pm to guarantee you are back on the boat by 5pm.

You have enough time for a day visit, but like the last poster said, give yourself time going back. Sometimes the ferry is crowded and you have to wait for the next time. Happened to us one time.

Good advice for getting here for a day trip, but once you arrive you will need a plan on how to spend the day. You cannot really walk anywhere so you'll need transportation. You can rent a car at the ferry terminal here in AXA or one of the taxi drivers can give you an excursion. Plenty of places and beaches to visit. Check some of the local websites for ideas.

www.wiol.com is a source as well as www.anguillaguide.com.

Good luck.
