Some forums have a tradition of trip reports. This forum normally does not have an excess of inputs, so I thought I'd pass along info about my recent trip from SF to Portland for the purpose of seeing the Redwoods and the Oregon Coast. I am going to include our Northern California experiences, since many come to the forum seeking info about a similar itinerary.
Day 1: nothing too exciting. Drove from SFO to Fort Bragg with various stops along the way. Dinner at Silver's at the Wharf in Fort Bragg. Excellent crabcakes
Day 2: Stayed overnite at the Howard Creek Ranch Bed/Breakfast. Kinda quaint, so it gets mixed reviews. We really enjoyed it. It is located in a small valley that opens to the ocean. There is a little gray kitty that enjoyed walking to the ocean with us, both in the evening and in the morning.
We timed our departure so as to arrive at the Peg House restaurant on Hiway 101 in Leggett, CA, for lunch. Superb hamburger, salmon burger, and blackberry sundae! No inside seating, only an outside courtyard.
Spent the afternoon doing Redwoods: Avenue of the Giants; Big Tree Loop and Rockefeller Loop off of Bull Creek Flats Road. It's fun to drive "off the beaten path" and both loops were worth it.
