Where to stay to keep 8 adults 8 kids happy?

We are planning a trip to the coast for next summer with a few families, some with kids and some without. There will be 8 adults and 8 kids from age 1 to 11.

Some of our friends are self-proclaimed "city slickers" and aren't really into the beach, so we are hoping to find a place with lots of options for activities/sightseeing either in town or only a short drive away. The more variety the better.

My husband, daughter and I will be staying about a week and the rest of the group will likely come for 2 or 3 nights. We would like the option of either a condo or beachhouse. Budget is flexible :)

I'm thinking Seaside would be a good option as it's a bigger town, but I would appreciate other suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Haha, this may be th ae first time I have ever recommended Lincoln City to anyone (I am more into small, quiet towns), but it would fit your needs. Long flat beach for the kids. For the city slicker friends, there is a shopping outlet and a casino , Chinook Winds , that also features entertainers .

Seaside and Newport immediately come to mind. Considering the large group Lincoln City is a possibility because of the large variety of lodging options and the casino if there are several several adults in the group that enjoy the gambling scene. Seaside will be inundated with tourists in the summer and reservations for there will have to be nailed down long before you go.

Thanks for the recommendations! I guess I should clarify that my "city slicker" friends aren't really into casinos or nightlife, more like they would prefer more arts/history/cultural sights or a scenic drive rather than a day at the beach.

Yes, that clarification makes a difference :). So, maybe you could stay in Seaside which is grest for kids (bumper cars, carousel and beach). Then your friends could drive to Cannon Beach, a smaller, more artsy town to peruse the art galleries and at some point enjoy the drive past Neahkanie Mt not far away. Do they hike at all?

A day trip to Astoria would also be a easy drive from Seaside/CB... Astoria has plenty of history and charm. Over the past 15 or so years its really branched out from the old traditional Oregon economy(fishing/logging) into a funky and fun small town to explore-mixed in with the fishing and logging.

Newport's a good choice -- the excellent Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center are great attractions for all ages. The Historic Bayfront and Nye Beach areas offer lots of good dining choices, shops and art galleries for browsing and you're centrally located for scenic drives north and south
