Itinerary for Sequoia and Kings Canyon

I am taking a group trip iwth 6 adults to Yosemite and Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park in a few weeks. We are planning to spend Wed-Fri in Yosemite and we are thinking of driving on Saturday morning from Yosemite to Kings Canyon, spending the day there then driving to Three Rivers where we will stay over night and spend Sunday in Sequoia area.

Can someone advise if this seems like a reasonable route? We're having trouble figuring out driving times from Yosemite to Kings Canyon and from Kings Canyon to Three Rivers. Any advice on the must-sees in both area (Kings Canyon and Sequoia) over those two days is also welcome. Our trip is mostly focused on Yosemite hence that being where most of our research time has been spent, but we don't want to miss out on Sequoia and Kings Canyon either.

How did your trip and itinerary end up? We are a planning a similar trip and I was surprised to read it was 3 hours from King's Canyon to Three Rivers

Hume Lake is not in Kings Canyon nor in Sequoia and would take you out of the parks and into the national parks area (different feel to it).

John Muir is a relatively modern accommodation, although some reviews of it stress its rustic qualities.

As you can tell there's an awful lot to see in just the two parks and in the time you've allotted, you'll have to make some decisions.

Some good news: we just got back 2 days ago and the construction is over on the 198. Whew.

4-5 hours to Grant Grove is reasonable, another 1.5 hours round trip (given summer traffic) just driving the round trip to and from the King's Canyon (add time for hiking and stops); 1.5 hours from Grant Grove to Wuksachi/Lodgepole or General Sherman (maybe a bit longer to the General Sherman area), again without stopping (and there are many hikes and sights along the way - detouring to Hume Lake will had 2 hours if you do the ice cream and more than that if you go biking there).

John Muir might be a very good place for your first night (you can collapse there after you actually go down the Canyon - and I'm sure you'll do at least a bit of gazing and walking around before coming back to sleep). Then, the next night in Wuksachi would work (or Three Rivers, if Wuksachi is booked).
