Is this a good Itinerary for April, next year?

We plan to have one week vacation during the 2nd week of April. We are

interested in wild flowers, water falls, hiking on the trails (not too

difficult ones), visiting nice towns and having authentic local food.

This is just a preliminary itinerary:

Asheville (1day), visit Biltmore estate and garden;

west on 74 to Sylva (famous court house in many movies) and Dillsboro

(1night) ( catch a trine to Bryson kith, fun)

South on 107 to Cashiers, Highland (2 nights) ( a very nice city)

Northwest on 64 to Franklin (many waterfalls on 64), then 28 to Bryson

City. On 19 To Cherokee, on 441 to Gatliburg (2 nights) to Townsend,

Greenbrier, TN (wild flowers). Go home either from Knoxville or

Asheville

Is this a practical plan? Any suggestions about sites we should visit

in these towns or nearby town? Good restaurants or B and B?

Also we are going to fly to the area, which airport do you suggest?

Looks like a very good plan. I would fly into Asheville and fly home from Asheville.

Just a few thoughts on what I may do. I would rent a cabin in Maggie Valley. You could easily drive to all the places you want to visit from Maggie Valley or even Franklin. Try vrbo.com. Would save you a lot of packing and unpacking. You could get a real nice place with a mountain view and a hottub. Much more room and privacy than a hotel room or B&B. You could get a great rate in April. I would visit Biltmore on your last day. The azaleas may be blooming in the gardens. They are beautiful.

I think jaded24fan is right on it.Maggie Valley would be a great place to stay at and it is not too far from other cities and attractions.Weve been to the area the last 2 Aprils and love it there that time of the year with all the flowers starting to bloom. The Biltmore is very nice and I think you will enjoy it.Hope you enjoy your visit and have a great time.

I think two nights in Highlands is too much time. The town is quite small with one main street about three blocks in length and one cross street with one block of shops on each side of the main street. I would take the extra night in the National Park.

I have visited Highlands on a regular basis since 1963 and it is worth a stop but I would find the time better spent along the Blue Ridge Parkway or in the National Park.

Thank you very much for the info. I am thinking to stay in Maggie Valley. Is that too much a rush to drive from Maggie Valley to Highlands, then come back to Maggie Valley the same day. If we should stay in Highlands overnight, any recommendations for hotel, restaurants?

Highlands is about 90 minutes or a bit more from Maggie Valley. No need to get a hotel in Highlands. The drive there and back is beautiful.

Crowds run light in April, so you can visit most all areas of the Smokies without fear of traffic.

If you're flying in and out of Asheville (which makes sense to me), Townsend is an awkward location to end your itinerary at. I suggest running up through Gatlinburg then hanging eastward through Cosby and back down to Asheville from there.

I will definitely look into it. Do you recommend any interesting place and restaurants in Cosby?
