No room at the lodge? Keep checking!

The forum regulars frequently advise to “keep checking” when someone is trying to secure lodging at the National Parks, and they are right. Last August we scheduled a 2-night stay at the North Rim, for early June. This was 10 months in advance, but I could only get a “rim view” cabin for the first night, so we settled for a regular western cabin the second night. I’ve been checking the reservation website 2-3 times per day ever since, and just now scored the second night in a rim view cabin – 12 hours before we leave on vacation! We had similar luck with our Bryce reservations, started out at Tropic, but after months of checking a cabin finally opened up inside the park. Keep checking!

Have a great trip and so nice you could score two nights at the rim.

We're making a similar trip in the middle of October. Thanks so much for your reports and pictures. They were great! At Grand Canyon we've been able to move up from Frontier to Pioneer--hoping to make it to a Western Cabin.

Perseverance does indeed pay--I've had similar luck at not only GCNP but Bryce, Zion and Big Bend as well.
